In Tennessee, the scores from public health inspections must be prominently posted in every restaurant.

Some local news shows have segments where they report the highest and lowest health scores each week.

Tennessee is the only place I’ve lived that does that, and Husband–who grew up here–is horrified that the entire rest of the country does not do that.

(and of course we acknowledge that some scores may be influenced by biased inspectors)

…so THAT’S why i haven’t seen them other places

something else that occurred to me this morning, regarding the way people who regularly have snow and ice in the winter often mock southern states residents’ reactions to what the Northerners consider minor snow accumulation without regard for the way the infrastructure in the south is not set up to deal with clearing snow

is that a lot of those northern Midwestern states were also scraped flat by glaciers millions of years ago

and driving on ice on a flat area is very different from driving on ice on all the hills of the south where the glaciers never reached

(and before anyone says anything, this post is NOT about the situation in Texas, which is 100% infrastructure failure due to regulation avoidance and cost cutting)

Yeah, I mean - northern winters would be a whole different beast if we weren’t prepared for/budgeted for/fully expecting it each year.

The attitude doesn’t make sense to me at all - we get surprise storms here that are light compared to what we’re used to, but without pretreating the roads (like we would for an expected storm), things get dicey. I’ve seen 4WD Karen go spiraling through an intersection in the midst of a “dusting” because the roads weren’t salted and she wasn’t driving properly for the weather.

Heck, I’ve fishtailed on roads that look clear, under certain conditions.

Point being, a treated road and population that’s used to driving in this is totally different from an untreated road and population that’s never had to.

Northerners are spoiled and really need to be more understanding of states that normally don’t have any particular need to prepare for the kind of weather they’re getting currently.

i am obsessed with the idea of an article about an american artist being written the way american journalists write about foreign artists

As we sit down to chat, I am struck by the Americanness of his features (he looks like he has 64 teeth instead of 32) and demeanor (he is charmingly obnoxious). He is sporting a purple and gold synthetic fabric shirt. “LeBron James,” he says, hand on his chest, “love that dude.” [A/N LeBron James is a player from a local basketball team called The Los Angeles Lakers] – it is not uncommon, even to this day, for Americans to retain old-fashioned values and beliefs such as sport idolatry. His American accent is very thick, almost unintelligible, but his humorous nature transcends any language barrier, at least until we delve into the topic of his tragic childhood. “We had no bidet,” he admits, his blushing cheeks betraying his embarrassment, “and we used to eat frozen croissants and store-bought ragù bolognese.” He looks somber now, the ancestral sorrow visible on his American face. “It was just really hard,” he says after a short pause, tears now welling in his eyes, “to grow up without the privilege of underage smoking and tramways like all the European kids.”

La-HA! hit me like a fucking drug.

this is what every social interaction feels like when you’re neurodivergent

I looked up the menu for the restaurant this is based on and i wanted to die.

image

i actually know abt cafe gratitude, u have to order by SAYING “i am [menu item]” it’s fucking insane

googling this to laugh at the website and finding out that one of the 5 locations of this restaurant is 10 minutes away from where i live is the most horrific feeling i’ve ever experienced.

this is what happens when you give in to saying the made up size names at Starbucks, that’s where that slippery slope leads

the most potent, profound satirization of american christianity in history is the creation and success of mormonism

joe smith saw what americans liked about christianity and was like. fuck it lets just do a full reboot. here comes racist papa christ and his american angel pals. You Have To Give Money To God

when i was a kid there was lots of gulf storms down the bay and my grimgram told me when it thunders thats because angels r bowling and jesus got a strike

mormonism is like if you made a whole religion out of whatever compels grandmas to act like that

mormons believe native americans are jewish people who got turned brown for angering god but go off

THIS!!!

Stop telling on yourselves, some of us washed our hands before there was a pandemic

I licked every doorknob I came across

… . buses and subway cars are being fully cleaned for the first time in years in some places … .movie theaters (( which should not be open )) are sanitising *all* of their seats instead of just the ones kids leave buttery fingerprints on … . mayhaps this isn’t about individual actions but rather corporations & governments cutting corners when it comes to cleanliness because it wasn’t “ cost effective “ .

for real tho, and this is especially true about public food based places??? like WHY would anybody assume op was just talking about washing your own damn hands lmfao

yall telling on yourselves about what kind of grossness yall were perfectly okay with just because you personally washed your hands in the bathroom that day

under 200 cases of the flu were hospitalized in the States so far this year, compared to over 400,000 this time last year. COVID measures, even as imperfect as they are in the States, effectively neutralized the flu

so yes. pre-pandemic society was artificially making everyone sick in ways that were completely preventable, as evident by how many other illnesses have dropped down as a result
