With BMW's new iX3 electric SUV now out in the open and on its way to Australia, one of the next cabs off the rank will be the smaller BMW iX1 EV.
As these new spy photos reveal, it seems clear the iX1 electric SUV will follow the same course plotted by the iX3, using the body of its regular X1 sibling.
We can likely also expect the iX1 to add some key identifying BMW i features – including glossy black plates where the louvered BMW kidney grille would usually sit and a number of blue highlights.

Details for the iX1's electric powertrain will be some time away from going official, but buyers can likely expect a similar setup to that found in the iX3.
If so, that will mean a single-motor configuration, mounted at the rear axle.
In the iX3, that setup – matched with a 74kWh (80kWh gross) battery pack – delivers 210kW and 400Nm with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds.
A driving range of up to 460 kilometres is promised for the iX3.
The iX1 is expected to go official in late 2021 or early 2022, not long after the launch of the next-generation X1 SUV.
