Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Our politicians could learn a lot from today’s youth

Government condemnation of a massive protest by students over climate change has shown us where the real intelligence lies, I write in Independent Australia.

More National Energy Guarantee Lies in Question Time

The NEG was a hot topic during Question Time on Tuesday, with the coal dinosaurs ignoring climate change for promises of cheap, reliable energy, writes John Passant in Independent Australia.

The Turnbull government is out of energy

Not only did we not save $200 a year as Abbott promised but energy prices have doubled since the Coalition scrapped the carbon tax; now, dropping subsidies for renewables is the latest thought bubble from the Nationals. John Passant reports in Independent Australia. Comments on the IA site please.

People will die this winter because of Turnbull government actions

Capitalism is killing the Great Barrier Reef

Under capitalism profit comes before people and the bleaching on the Barrier Reef is one example of that ‘logic’. That logic traps us in fossil fuel production and for example Australian government approval of the Adani coal mine. We can save the planet, and with it the Barrier Reef, if we get rid of the underlying driver of climate change – capitalism. As climate change and its impacts accelerate, Rosa Luxemburg’s stark reminder that our choice is socialism or barbarism rings even truer.

The failure of COP21 – climate versus capitalism

Joe Sabatini explains the neoliberal mindset behind the UN climate talks in Paris last year–officially called the 21st Congress of the Parties for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP 21–and what the resulting agreement really means for saving the planet, in an article originally written for the January 2016 issue of the revolutionary socialism in the 21st century magazine and published at the rs21 website and republished in Socialist Worker US.
