Recently, MOCA Education department has met virtually with other MOCA staff members, along with Los Angeles public school students and teachers in our Contemporary Art Start program, to discuss this work by #LaurieSimmons. Without offering any context on the artist or the work itself, the Education team gathered comments from these viewers in an attempt to provide different perspectives on Simmons's striking work. This exercise highlights how one artwork can be read in so many ways, depending on the experiences of the viewer. What does Simmon's photograph mean to you?
