Support » Plugin: Gutenberg » Graceful fallback when 3rd party Gutenberg blocks are disabled?

    Hey

Is there any automatic and graceful to disable and maybe locate blocks of which there isn’t any active plugin?

What I mean is, if I use a third party Gutenberg plugin and later disable it, the blocks created via that plugin, might be rendered in very unpredictable ways, disrupting a maybe otherwise quite fine post.

So instead of a bunch of unstyled html vomit, I’d be better off with a notice “The Accordion block is unavailable”, or the like.

A way to search or list where a particular block has been used would also help cleaning up after a plugin removal.

    Am I making any sense?
    Bjarne

    Hi there!

I agree that there is space for improvement when a block is in the content but currently is not installed.
One option would be using the bock directory functionality and allow the user to install the block again with the press of a button. I created an issue so we could track the status of this https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/24759.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us!
