Tomorrow, after the climate speakout:

Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) are commonplace in social justice campaigns. Everyone who has been to a left-wing political event, especially environmental events, has been asked to sign up. Often NGOs have big influence in the funding and direction of these campaigns.

NGOs give the impression that they are necessary to fill the vacuum created by a retreating state, to co-ordinate young people to ensure they're heard by parliamentaria...ns, and to raise aid and awareness to combat social ills. But what is their real contribution? How do NGOs interact with genuine resistance movements? How do they alter the parameters of struggle? And could they ever be part of the fight against capitalism?

After the Oct 31 climate speakout, join Socialist Alternative Canberra at 2pm at Selli's to discuss the role of NGOs, their impact on resistance, and why they can't fight capitalism.
