Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Fighting for women’s liberation

Julia Gillard is Deputy Prime Minster. Quentin Bryce is Governor-General. The premiers of New South Wales and Queensland are women.

Women make up almost half the workforce.

Yet working women are paid 17% less for work of equal value. They are under-represented in senior jobs in most industries.

Abortion is still a crime in some states (including Anna Bligh’s Queensland).

Women do 3 times as much housework and child care as men. They face sexual harassment, assault and domestic violence. The media is full of narrow, demeaning stereotypes.

This Socialist Alternative talk on fighting for women’s liberation looks at why women are oppressed under capitalism and what working people have done, and can do, to fight for and win women’s liberation.
