Hello, my name is YY Liu. I am an ANU alumna, who experienced financial hardship during my tertiary studies. As a student, I worked in coffee shops and a laundry to pay bills. I was often tired, and my grades suffered. I needed a scholarship to help me really focus on my studies. I called many places and nobody was able to help. I gave up calling but I didn't give up on the belief that we all should have equal access to higher education. I was lucky enough to find a way to complete my studies and I know first-hand just how important education is. My passion for education led me to establish the Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship, to help disadvantaged ANU students.
Do you believe what I believe?
This online raffle is to raise money for disadvantaged Australian students. Every single dollar raised will go towards the ANU Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship Endowment for disadvantaged Australian students.
Many students from regional, remote, or low socioeconomic areas have the talent to study at ANU, but not the financial means. Likewise, many students with disabilities have the talent to study at ANU but perhaps require financial support to help make their education dreams a reality. I started the Poppy Undergraduate Scholarships to help these students. I hope you will help them too.
2020 has become even more challenging for students. Many students have lost access to employment. With less income, more students are in desperate need of our help.
Universities provide foundational experiences for young people to create their future and the future of our communities.
