After Wrapping ‘Uncharted’, Tom Holland Teases the Start of ‘Spider-Man 3’ Filming

After Wrapping ‘Uncharted’, Tom Holland Teases the Start of ‘Spider-Man 3’ Filming
It was always going to be a tight squeeze for actor Tom Holland to fit in both the Uncharted movie and Spider-Man 3, but we didn’t exactly know it’d be this tight of a squeeze. Last week, the young actor revealed the first look at his heroic character Nathan Drake in the long-developing Uncharted video game adaptation. That project started filming earlier this year, was shut down due to Covid-19, and then picked back up again in July and actually wrapped production (at least as far as Holland’s work is concerned) last week. But …

‘The Suicide Squad’: James Gunn Says He Had “Full Freedom” To Kill Any Character

‘The Suicide Squad’: James Gunn Says He Had “Full Freedom” To Kill Any Character
Warner Bros.’ upcoming superhero film, “The Suicide Squad,” might share a confusingly similar title to the 2017 film, “Suicide Squad,” but that’s where the similarities end. James Gunn’s take on the idea of a group of villains forced to go on missions that will almost certainly end in their death is sure to be different than what David Ayer worked on just a few years ago.

Piotr Domalewski to Direct Afghan War Film ‘Betrayed,’ Producer of Oscar Nominated ‘Corpus Christi,’ Leszek Bodzak, on Board (Exclusive)
Polish director Piotr Domalewski, whose film “I Never Cry” screens this week in El Gouna Film Festival’s Out of Competition section, is facing a growing controversy surrounding his next project. It centers on the Nangar Khel incident, when Polish soldiers fired mortar shells into a wedding party in an Afghan village in 2007, killing six civilians. It became known as “the event that changed the Polish army.” “Some monstrous online discussion has already started,” Domalewski says.

The film is an adaptation of the book “Betrayed” by journalist Edyta Żemła, which investigated where the blame lay for the incident, and itself had an explosive effect, mostly because of Żemła’s claim that “in Nangar Khel, it wasn’t the soldiers who tarnished the honor of the Polish army, but the politicians.” Żemła will act as a consultant on the film, which has the working title “Nangar Khel – Zdradzeni” (“Nangar Khel – Betrayed

How ‘Fury Road’ Inspired ‘Parasite’: 10 Takeaways from Bong Joon Ho’s Criterion Commentary

How ‘Fury Road’ Inspired ‘Parasite’: 10 Takeaways from Bong Joon Ho’s Criterion Commentary
Between the Cannes premiere of “Parasite” in May 2019 and its Best Picture win at the Oscars some nine months later, writer-director Bong Joon Ho gave over 600 interviews, and participated in more than 100 post-screening Q&As. That’s an average of more than two interviews every single day. It’s a testament to Bong’s endurance that he survived that gauntlet (and was just as pleasant to speak to at the end of that journey as he was at the beginning), and it’s a testament to the vitality of his film that — even after speaking with virtually every semi-legitimate entertainment journalist on the planet Earth — there was still more to say about it.

Nevertheless, when Bong and revered British film writer Tony Rayns connected over Zoom to record the audio commentary for the Criterion Collection’s new edition of “Parasite,” they were faced with the unusual challenge of shining new

Netflix Is Turning ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Into A Live-Action Series

Netflix Is Turning ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Into A Live-Action Series
No one seems to have cracked the code of the video game movie. Take “Assassin’s Creed,” from Ubisoft. Even the well-meaning team of Michael Fassbender, director Justin Kurzel and an ensemble of excellent actors like Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael K. Williams, couldn’t turn that adaptation into a workable film. However, while “Assassin’s Creed” failed with critics and audiences, the video game adaptation has found some success on television, right?

Jihlava Plans to Make Hybrid Festival a Permanent Feature of Event

Jihlava Plans to Make Hybrid Festival a Permanent Feature of Event
From its first edition 24 years ago, the Jihlava Intl. Documentary Film Festival, running Oct. 27-Nov. 8, has always gone its own way — largely thanks to director Marek Hovorka and his team, who never wanted to run just another venue for screening docs.

These days, the Czech Republic’s prime doc event continues that mission even as it’s been forced by government Covid-19 safety restrictions to go fully online. A digital version will in fact be a permanent Jihlava feature going forward, Hovorka says, but after this year it will be balanced with live events to create a hybrid fest format.

For 2020, rather than simply streaming films, he says, Jihlava will create a rich experience online and on the ground with top doc makers and leading thinkers visiting the central Bohemian town for talks to be aired live from the Lighthouse. This glassed-in shipping container converted into a studio is installed on Masarykovo nadrazi,

George Clooney’s ‘The Midnight Sky’ Trailer Explores Humanity After Earth’s Destruction

George Clooney’s ‘The Midnight Sky’ Trailer Explores Humanity After Earth’s Destruction
Netflix’s “The Midnight Sky,” an apocalyptic sci-fi drama starring and directed by George Clooney, offers insight into a possible future where unspecified destruction renders the earth uninhabitable.

In a trailer released on Tuesday, Clooney’s character is searching for a way to warn other survivors against returning to Earth after a global catastrophe. The film, based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s novel “Good Morning, Midnight,” was shot ahead of the Covid-19 shutdown and before the onslaught of fires seen in 2020, but the calamities Earth faces in the film feel eerily similar.

“It’s science fiction, which unfortunately is less fictional as we move through the days,” said Clooney in an interview with Vanity Fair. “The sickness of hate and the elements that come from that, battles and wars — that has been percolating for quite some time.”

Clooney stars as Augustine Lofthouse, a scientist living in Antarctica who believes himself to

Zoe Lister-Jones Shook Up Hollywood with Her All-Female Crew, Now She’s Doing It with ‘The Craft: Legacy’

Zoe Lister-Jones Shook Up Hollywood with Her All-Female Crew, Now She’s Doing It with ‘The Craft: Legacy’
Four years ago, Zoe Lister-Jones made headlines by hiring all-female crew for her directorial debut, the musical comedy “Band Aid.” That was a much bigger deal back then than it is today, when behind-the-scenes inequality has become a perpetual hot topic in Hollywood, but “Band Aid” stands as an early example of what’s possible when the person behind the camera makes an effort.

Lister-Jones doesn’t take credit for pushing the idea of all-female crews into the zeitgeist, but the film had a measurable impact on conversations about gender equality on set. Other productions have tried similar hiring schemes, from indies like Marianna Palka’s “Egg” to Ava DuVernay’s series “Queen Sugar,” which has only hired female directors for four seasons running. The most recent iteration of the Celluloid Ceiling study found that percentages of women working in key behind-the-scenes roles on the top 100 and 250 grossing films has

Kazakh-American group claims Borat Subsequent Moviefilm 'incites violence'
The Kazakh American Association has released a letter on social media accusing Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest Borat film of ‘justifying harassment’

A group of Kazakh-Americans has demanded that Amazon withdraw Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Sacha Baron Cohen’s new satirical comedy which – like its 2006 predecessor Borat – identifies Kazakhstan as the home country of its fictional journalist character Borat Sagdiyev.

In a letter published on social media shortly before the film’s official launch, addressed to three senior Amazon executives, the Kazakh American Association says that Borat Subsequent Moviefilm “may cause irreparable harm to to Kazakhstan’s national image and people as its comedic nature may justify ethnicity-based harassment”. It adds: “This film incites violence against a highly vulnerable and under-represented minority ethnic group.”

‘The Midnight Sky’ Trailer: George Clooney’s Adventure Epic Is Netflix’s Big Christmas Tentpole
