I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Was a bit grim, wasn’t it?

Was it more sickening, the sheer extent of the concentration camp brutality, or the the sheer and intricate micromanagement of public impressions blown away by the eventual riot, or the sheer dishonesty of politicians and public servants concerning it.

I think it has left a bad taste in people’s mouths judging by comment about the cybersphere today…its supposed to be the twenty first century and we seem back to the nineteenth and the Kanakas.

The UNHCR is actually a charity that begs for money on TV.
Australia spends more on “protecting our borders” than the UNHCR has to help all asylum seeking refugees worldwide.
Australia is the only country in asia from Africa to Japan Including China that is Signatory to the UN Convention on Refugees.
We are the only game in town. Do you want to be the generation that turned your backs on the ideals and honor of your grand parents because John Howard and Tony Abbott have fed you bullshit?

““““““““
The very people coming out of the second World War who signed the UN Refugee Convention and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
They knew the world needed to move away from the crap politics you obviously worship. As for money growing on trees. we are spending up to $4 billion to keep the few boat people out and at the same time we allow those Mining Corporations and billionaires, whose sway you are under, to avoid paying back the 100 billion excise on diesel fuel per year.

The “virtual Industrial Murder by neglect”, that passes for a National OHS system is costing Australia in excess of $60 Billion a year because the LNP look the other way while wage slaves die or suffer endlessly from workplace accident, injury and disease caused by the failure of management systems which are always ignored by big business because big business believes, it is cheaper for it, to pass the costs onto broken families and communities.
James Hardie LIMITED packed up and walked away, thumbing its nose at all of us while your private school boys look the other way. Remember Bernie Banton AM?

We should collect a further $100 Billion in taxes and rates from Churches, Charities, Mosques and sporting bodies; Instead of frightening the bejeezus out of pensioners and self funded retirees who now believe that the LNP will asset test them, out from under the rooves over their heads.
Finally, we should consider tightening our belts, and cut the crap about Border protection and begin process asylum seekers on shore and on bridging visas, saving us paying $4billion to the likes of Serco who have made an industry out of keeping goals and detention centres full all around the world. Full of bodies without souls, to create a cash flow back to the UK, HQ.

When we set up, a Royal Commission into the corruption within the AFP, Immigration, Customs and the Bureaucracy generally, that feeds and is part of the people smuggling industry across Asia, by air and by boat.
Remember David, this deplorable behaviour would not happen if it was not sanctioned by the high flyers who work for and hoodwink our Government and its predecessor daily.
They know the LNP gets political mileage out of keeping the “Crisis and the Faux threatening enemy, just over the horizon”. Win-win all-round?
A national disgrace, it won Howard the one election; and everyone kept it going to the shame of our National soul.

No Immunity from Prosecution: Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court
“27.1 This Statute shall apply equally to all persons without any distinction based on official capacity. In particular, official capacity as Head of State or Government, a member of a Government or parliament, an elected representative or a government official shall in no case exempt a person from criminal responsibility under this Statute, nor shall it, in and of itself, constitute a ground for reduction of sentence.”

Duty to Prosecute: Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court
The purpose of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court is to put “…an end to impunity for the perpetrators of these crimes and thus to contribute to the prevention of such crimes” Ratifying states such as Canada have a duty to vigorously pursue investigation of allegations of Rome Statute violations and prosecutions of alleged perpetrators.
Canada has implemented all its obligations to cooperate arising from ratification of the Rome Statute by passing the Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes Act and by amending the Extradition Act, the Mutual legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act and the Criminal Code.

April 2005: Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to Remedy and Reparations for Victims of Violations of International Human Rights and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law, adopted in April 2005 by the 61st session of the Human Rights Commission. This is a groundbreaking document that takes as its starting point the needs and wishes of the victims themselves, and constitutes the first compilation of the already existing obligation of States regarding victims’ right to reparation.

Preamble, paragraph 8, “Recalling that international law contains the obligation to prosecute perpetrators of certain international crimes in accordance with international obligations of States and the requirements of national law or as provided for in the applicable statutes of international judicial organs, and that the duty to prosecute reinforces the international legal obligations to be carried out in accordance with national legal requirements and procedures and supports the concept of complementarity,” (paragraph 8 of the Preamble)

The Guidelines go on to state, in clear language the duty of states to “investigate [violations of international human rights and humanitarian law] and, if there is sufficient evidence, the duty to submit to prosecution the person allegedly responsible for the violations and, if found guilty, the duty to punish her or him.”(Article 4) [1]

February 2007: Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. This resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly 14 Feb. 2007, A/RES/61/153, specifically condemns all attempts to legalize torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and emphasizes that torture is a violation of international humanitarian law, can be a war crime or a crime against humanity and emphasizes the primary duty of states to take effective action to investigate, prosecute and severely punish all acts of torture (paras. 2. 5. 6). The resolution also notes in paragraph 12 that “prolonged incommunicado detention or detention in secret places…can in itself constitute a form of [torture]…”
