Frequently asked questions

Why consign on Artsy?

Artsy wants to make it seamless and worthwhile to consign and resell art. We partner with premier auction houses and galleries to remove the stress from the selling process, and to give you access to the highest level of service. Our experts match you with the right seller to ensure that you receive the most competitive offers and sales terms.

Are there any fees?

The artwork assessment and matching service that Artsy provides is free of charge. However, once you consign your work to one of our partners, they may charge a standard commission, as well as costs for shipping, insurance, and photography.

What happens once I submit a work?

First, Artsy will review your submission, and notify you if the work is being shared with potential sellers, e.g. auction houses and galleries. We will keep your name and contact information confidential. Next, interested partners will provide estimates and consignment terms with you via Artsy. You can review and respond to the consignment proposal via email. Finally, if you would like to move forward, we will introduce you to the partner to finalize consignment terms directly.

What types of artworks do you accept?

To determine if your work qualifies, our expert staff assesses if your artist’s work has sufficient resale market and demand (the number, recency, and value of auction results). Then we review important authenticity, provenance information and artwork details you provided. We require several images (front, back, signature), unframed dimensions, provenance, and a Certificate of Authenticity, as well as any additional documentation. Generally, we accept artworks valued at $5,000 or more.

How quickly will I hear from Artsy?

If your work is approved, expect to hear from us within 10 business days. Once approved, it typically takes 2-3 weeks to receive an offer from an Artsy partner if they’re interested in selling the work on your behalf. Artsy and its network of auction houses and galleries host auctions year-round, empowering you to sell artwork on your preferred timeline. To learn about the status of your consignment submission, please email consign@artsty.net or call +1 646 797 3423.

Consignments at Artsy
How do I submit my artwork to sell?
To submit your work for review, please go through the submission flow through Artsy’s website or mobile app. Please provide detailed information about the artwork, so that we can make an accurate assessment. We require several images (front, back, signature), unframed dimensions, provenance, and a Certificate of Authenticity, as well as any additional documentation.
What happens once I submit a work to Artsy Consignments?
If your work is approved, you can expect to hear back from us within 10 business days. Once approved, it typically takes 2-3 weeks to receive an offer from an Artsy partner, if they’re interested in selling the work on your behalf. Once you review and approve an offer, we will connect you with the seller to finalize the consignment agreement and arrange shipping logistics.
Will Artsy keep my identity confidential?
Yes. We do not share your name or contact information until you explicitly tell us that you want to accept an offer and wish to finalize the consignment agreement.
When does my consignment show up on Artsy?
By submitting your consignment, you do not automatically list your artwork on Artsy. At this time, private collectors aren’t able to list their works directly on Artsy. An Artsy partner could choose to place your work into an online auction that is hosted on Artsy, but that may not always be the case.
I'm an artist. Can I submit my own work to consign?
At this time we are only able to accommodate artworks by artists who have a resale market and substantial collector demand. As such, we do not accept submissions from artists of their own work.
Which auction houses and galleries are in Artsy's consignment partner network?
Artsy partners with premier international auction houses, such as Phillips, Bonhams, Piasa, and Tate Ward, as well as art galleries such Gagosian, Alan Cristea, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, and Stern Pissarro.
