This often comes up abt fiction but also holds true for nonfiction: Don't just think about whose story you want to tell & why--also think about if it's *your* story to tell in the 1st place. Plenty of ways for "allies" to help that don't involve speaking *for* marginalized folks.

  3. This is exactly the rhetoric that has put me, my family, and other government officials’ lives in danger while we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans. It needs to stop.

  4. I was wondering if this was one of those "applying precedent leads us to this unfortunately result..." cases but, no, the reality is that Barrett plowed through state law and a jury's factual findings to cheat the plaintiff out of her fair compensation. /1

  5. Whatachmacallit, 100 Grand, and 5th Avenue bars have been my go-to "underrated" chocolate bars since I was a kid. Butterfingers, Twix, and Kit Kats are also my favorites. And when I wanted to feel FANCY as a kid: Andes Mints!

We have a responsibility not to reinforce that fragility through not just our research, but our processes as a discipline. Which includes being far more critical of how we centre fannishness as a part of fan studies which damages BIPOC scholars due to how fandom functions.

When we talk about generational differences in fandom, we have to acknowledge that the dominant ideal of whiteness is passed on generationally from fans to fans, from academia to academia, from media to media. And in fandom, relies of white women's feelings and fragility.

The historical whiteness of fan studies, along with the whiteness of fandom and its media objects, obscures the racism that was *always* present. Toxic behaviour that was *always* present and uses whatever tools are at hand to reassert white supremacy (often via toxic positivity)

I remember that too. I remember sobbing and speaking on the steps of the Supreme Court during the vote while racist ADAPTers rolled by to lobby for their bill that went nowhere. They didn’t give a damn about the disabled women in the Kavanaugh Doe case.

The fact that this happened, and that rhis man has made so many calls to tell MANY disabled women what they should be doing despite not having any authority to do so, is appalling. I can name at least half a dozen women who received these types of calls.

This is a great episode where Oliver Stone gives lots of candor about telling the truth about US imperialism and war in film and the struggles even he has had. Also, highly recommend the related 3-episodes about Muslim representation in film & DoD funding in Hollywood.

  16. On the one hand we’ve got a president who encourages violence towards a sitting governor who was nearly kidnapped and murdered. But then Joe Biden was a little snarky to a reporter asking about misinformation.

  17. The “Biden is corrupt” argument (that centered on him somehow getting massive payments for... something?) doesn’t make sense. He made his taxes available, his primary source of income between age 29 and 73 was the federal government, etc.

  21. Also I'm in awe of the team bringing in an awards show to time w/o making it rushed & despite navigating tech issues. I'm so used to awards shows running over significantly that this was refreshing as hell.
