    From the “It’s Not 2016” file: just before the first debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump had erased her national polling lead and was effectively tied with her.

    Two new national polls out before the debate: NYT/Siena C. has Biden 49% to Trump 41%. ABC News/WaPo has it Biden +10 in the two-way & +6 in the four-way... averaging to an 8 pt Biden lead as well. Pretty clear what's happening here

    As I said in the spring, it’s gonna be funny when Biden turns in a perfectly adequate debate performance and Trump supporters will fall back on “teh drugs!” or “secret earpiece!”

    Not to go all Karl Weick, but one way of understanding the bizarre nature of so many Trump pronouncements is that he's constantly struggling to explain to himself what he's just done. ("How can I know what I think until I see what I say?" etc.)
