    For 1002 days the Australian govt has kept two small girls in detention. Recently 5 yr old Kopika told me she wanted three things: to go back to their home, to go shopping and go in her dads car. The Govt continues to insist they “got children out of detention”.

    And bring the 300 men on Nauru and in PNG here to Australia and we can save another 1.2 BILLION dollars, put it towards rebuilding ALL homes burned down last summer and water bombers.

    Similar in Adelaide where an Afghan refugee from Nauru remains in detention while his wife and baby live minutes away in community- separated for 21 months- not allowed to visit for 9 months. Family separation policy ensures maximum pain.

    A Somali refugee says the ABF refused his requests to visit his sick wife in hospital. He is in detention in Brisbane after being transferred from Nauru for medical treatment last June. He hasn't seen his wife and son for 9 months, though they live close by in the community

    The discretionary powers are both broad and abused by , and . It’s in the public interest to set the family free. The millions spent on their incarceration should be spent on water bombing aircraft for the fire season.

    We agree . Our Migration Act allows for indefinite detention of people arriving without a visa - even Australian-born. It also allows for immediate release under Section 195A, esp. when it’s in the public interest. Time to let Tudge know.

    Dear friends, today marks another milestone for Nades, Priya, Kopika and Tharnicaa. Today it is 1000 days since this beautiful family was snatched from their home in Biloela in a dawn raid by Mr Dutton's Australian Border Force.

    For more than a decade our Government has chosen to deny refugees a life of dignity and safety, by keeping people locked up indefinitely in immigration detention. Australia’s reliance on indefinite detention as a solution to the refugee crisis is shameful.

    RIGHT NOW: people on the ground, we need more. Serco trying to force one of our sick friends to BITA. They place people into high security first. Then into stuffed rooms with three others. He doesn’t want to go. He needs COMMUNITY. Not PRISON

    Refugees detained in Australia couldn’t have friends & family visit this year due to , ☎️ calls are their only connection. Prisons in most states are restarting visits but there is no date yet for visits to restart in immigration detention - story ~

    Callum's mum, Jane, says while she felt while there wasn’t much she could do politically to help the plight of refugees, “there is always an opportunity to form a human connection.”

    Handcuffs are relative to a risk assessment that indicates an escape risk. Yet I've known of their use in spite of no indicators due to fear of financial abatement or reputational damage. Risk should be based on science and a rights framework not commercial/ political interests.
