A huge thanks to and the cross bench senators for listening to expert evidence and thousands of ordinary Australians in rejecting this cruel and unnecessary Bill, a win for transparency and basic human decency

  8. Immi detainee told us: “You know the phone is critical not just for refugees, it's for everyone who is in detention and in the community. I believe if we are part of the community and we are humans - why can't we use this device? The phone our only lifeline."

  9. We welcome 's decision to vote no: it’s the right one. The potential for this Bill to deny asylum seekers their rights and crush their already fragile spirits was unconscionable.

  11. This is a victory for common sense, compassion and human rights. Amnesty Int. has been very clear on our stance on this bill: it will violate international law and is designed to ‘fix’ an issue that does not exist - it warrants power to officers over detainees that is not needed.

The Minister has got it wrong. Children remain in the care of Allan Brahminy in the Northern Territory. They may be at risk. They must be brought home.

There are thousands of overseas and the government is adamant that they're "doing all they can" to get them home, and then you see this 👇

The Morrison Government should use its close friendship with the US to push hard for the extradition proceeding to be dropped against Julian . NY Times published the revelations with impunity. This govt should demand the same treatment for one of our own journalists.

Despite 2020, there are folk like Geelong’s Linda & Rebecca in over 30 communities across the country - making a submission into a national review on refugee community sponsorship. What would you be willing to do for your new neighbour?

Last night broke a story about Tasmanian children being abused at a so-called diversion program in the Northern Territory. Tonight, Tasmanian children are still at the program. Still at risk. We've got to get them out.
