Open access conference material supplement

Open access conference material supplements are peer-reviewed, permanent, and citable. They record the full measure of research around a common thread, as presented at a workshop, congress, or conference, for the scientific record. Conference material supplements can include the following article types:

  • Poster extracts
  • Conference abstracts
  • Presentation extracts

Many of our medical journals accept conference material supplements. Submissions are subject to peer review for acceptance.

Pricing and publication routes

The price of a supplement is based on the number of articles included. We offer three publishing timelines for conference material supplements. The cost for each article consists of an open access Article Publishing Charge (APC) and, if selected, an Accelerated Publication charge.

No. Because these articles take a proceedings-type format, a full research article that offers sufficiently new information is viewed as a new article eligible for publication. For more information, please refer to the ICMJE guidelines on overlapping publications.

Yes. All open access conference materials are subject to the same robust peer review practices that are in place for all of our journal articles. Acceptance is driven entirely by editorial considerations and independent peer review, ensuring the highest standards are maintained.

Yes, as stated in our guidelines, we advise that authors should check the conditions for reuse of own work with the conference organizers and obtain permission for reuse if necessary. Most conferences allow authors to reuse their own work, but permission should always be sought where copyright lies with another party, such as the conference organizer.
