Bob Sharp - Times I've Tasted (Excellent 1984 Australian Private Folk LP)

 
'Times I've Tasted', a rare album released by Australian-based singer-songwriter/folk singer Bob Sharp, privately pressed on the rare and collectable 'EMI Custom' label in 1984.
From the scant information that I have found, Bob seems to have been based in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia: he was a regular at Alice Springs folk club in the 70's and 80's and was in the folk group known as Facial Expressions (who released a fine album in 1983) whilst the album itself was recorded at Centre Trax Studios in Alice Springs between March and May 1984.
Musically, the sound on the album can be described as lo-fi contemporary folk in the British folk vein, exemplified in his thick accent, the songwriting, and the vocal harmonies employed on certain tracks.
This pleasantly melodic album is definitely a hidden little Australian gem that remains virtually unknown to many folk collectors, but, undoubtedly deserves wider recognition - a great discovery.

Emmett Finley - ST (Killer 1971 US Folk Rock LP on Poison Ring Records)

It's a fairly obscure entry in the underground sounds arena. You'll hear this described as killer folk rock (it is) with lost, atmospheric vocals (huh?), amazing, soaring, backing vocal harmonies (they're there), with facile acoustic/electric mix (check) and overall dark, spooky vibe that'll run chills up and down your spine (nah!). I'll describe it as soft, dreamy, psych influenced folk rock. A recent analogy to a friend was: like "Imagine" era John Lennon singing vocals for Kaleidoscope (UK) with material written by Syd Barrett. This is a very subtle album, that doesn't get your full attention first time around. But after a second listen, you really pick up on all the hidden surprises.

Bruce Johnson - A Day in My Life (Very rare and excellent 1981 US Private Loner Folk LP)

Review found on the web :
Midwestern loner folk singer songwriter.
He has sort of mellow vocals and using mostly a 12 string guitar, the whole mix is shadowed at times with the use of a phase shifter and lots of echo effects.
Not much is known about the artist other than he is from Illinois.
Only one copy is known at the moment.
(maybe he was talking about my copy ... but I don't think so - so only two copies are known)
