Portchalice - At the Ugly Duckling (Rare 1977 UK Folk LP on the little CMS Recordings label)

Portchalice was a Dover based band with Andy Bassil (mandolin, guitar, vocals), Jimmy Gorman (bass), Roy Landeg (guitar, vocals), Paul Lunsford (banjo, vocals) and Jim Stewart (fiddle).

On this, their first album, the Group is heard in concert at 'The Ugly Duckling', an attractive country pub at Martin Mill, near Dover.

Another rare LP not to be missed !

St. Edmund's Folk Choir - Decade (Rare 1980 UK Xian Folk Private LP)

I recently noticed that all those bands/albums : St. Elphege Folk Group - "Hosanna", St. Edmund's Folk Choir - "We Sang Our Songs Upon a Hill" and "Decade" and The Folk Choir - "St. Aidan's Folk Choir" and "So Confusing and So Very Clear" were related through Stephen Church.

Like their first album (We Sang Our Songs Upon A Hill, released in 1974), it features female vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, and flute (again played by Elizabeth Hoyles who played on We Sang...).

You can listen to several tracks taken from St. Elphege Folk Group - "Hosanna", St. Edmund's Folk Choir - "We Sang Our Songs Upon a Hill" and The Folk Choir - "St. Aidan's Folk Choir" and "So Confusing and So Very Clear" on YouTube.

Another rare record not to be missed ...

Currency - First Exchange (Rare 1982 Australian Folk LP on Larrikin)

Rare and great Australian Folk LP issued in 1982 on the little Larrikin label.
An excellent Folk LP in my opinion ... close to the best UK Folk LPs from the 70's.

Currency were Fiona Mahony (fiddle and vocals), Ian Fogg (electric and acoustic guitar, chimes, backing vocals), John Fairhall (electric bass), Peter Stratford (drums), Chris Mobbs (wooden flute, tin whistles, bodhran, backing vocals) and Richard Williams (lead vocals, 5 string banjo, tin whistles, two-tone block).

Once again a great addition to any serious Folk collection.
