விருந்து Tamil Feasts

Announcing:
Our Last Feasts

Tamil Feasts will serve their last feast on Friday 31 July. This is the end of an era, and a timely and positive beginning for our team.

Tamil Feasts has been a wonderful family for the men, providing much needed support, and a very special experience for all involved. It has fulfilled its purpose above and beyond what it set out to achieve – creating a special space that has lasted for nearly 6 years and fed nearly 35,000 people! It is a testament to the men, the volunteers, the food and the customers who came and showed their support for refugees in Australia. See below for where the men are off to next!

We have exciting future plans including starting a new trainee program for people seeking asylum and expanding to people seeking asylum from other countries, an extension to the Training Program we ran last year. The Merri will re-open on 19th August 2020, in a new, reimagined model, and will provide a space for community dinners to appear in future, as well as featuring Tamil meals on its menu.

Message from Nirma:
“I am proud to have been a chef at Tamil Feasts. I would like to say thanks to all of our supporters and friends, you all are awesome!  When I started with Tamil Feasts I brought my experiences, culture and cuisine. I had such a great time with all of the wonderful volunteers. Thank you and many more”.

What’s next for the men?

Nirma is going to focus on his cleaning business – superkingcleaning

Niro will be joining the new Merri Cafe team while working on his Kottu Roti food stall. He has recently bought a house and moved to Flowerdale with his wife and child.

Nigethan has moved on since May to allow space for new projects (he wants to start a food truck) and focus on his other work.

Richman will be joining the new Merri Cafe team but is finally having a long-awaited operation and will need to recover. He is also in-line for an American visa and hopes to move there within six months.
