Retro Designs Of Japan
Sometimes PIE books are hard to find in the US so whenever I see something I like at a shop, I buy it. In this case, I was in the Design Museum Helsinki’s bookshop which had a great selection of art books from around the world (I even saw our Exquisite Book on the shelf!)
I buy these types of books a lot for reference. I use them to get inspired for generating motifs for patterns. This introduces classic looking borders, graphics and patterns in a simple way. Technically, you could take the files off the DVD they provide (if you still have a cd drive- I don’t!) and use these graphics for something non-commercial – an invitation to a party or to stencil paint your walls…
Apparently this wasn’t one of their harder to find books, so i didn’t need to lug it in my suitcase. You can get it here.
