In the Presence of Greatness: My Afternoon With Ruth Bader Ginsburg

In the Presence of Greatness: My Afternoon With Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a petite woman from Brooklyn who grew up to be a towering figure in American legal history and cultural trailblazer in American life. She was the most intimidating interview I have ever done.

I had the privilege of sitting with Justice Ginsburg and her daughter, Columbia University Law professor Jane C. Ginsburg, in the former’s beautiful apartment in the Watergate Complex in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 4, 2014. The two graciously participated in the 2016 essay collection, “What I Told My Daughter: Lessons From Leaders on Raising the Next Generation of Empowered Women,” that I edited alongside

Cable News Preps for a ‘Monumental Fight’ Over Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Replacement
The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will set off a massive political battle over her replacement, and just a few hours later on Friday night, the cable networks were already getting in place to cover it.

On MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” the tone was somber, as the show broadcast live images of a vigil outside the Supreme Court building. Maddow interviewed NPR’s Nina Totenberg, who related that Ginsburg’s dying wish was that the next president would pick her replacement.

“There’s going to be a monumental fight over this,” Totenberg said. “I’m not optimistic that what she wanted,

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Supreme Court Justice, Dead at 87
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at the age of 87, according to NPR.

The cause of death was complications from cancer; Ginsburg had battled pancreatic cancer for years, undergoing several surgeries that required her to step aside from the court. Days before her death, Ginsburg dictated this statement to her granddaughter Clara Spera: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” (The 2020 presidential election is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 3.)

HBO Max Gets ‘Harley Quinn’ Season 3 as DC Universe Becomes Digital Comics Service
HBO Max will be getting the third season of the animated “Harley Quinn” series. The show, which premiered on DC Universe, is moving to HBO Max as part of WarnerMedia’s plan to relaunch the former platform as a hub for digital comic books rather than original television.

The DC Universe streaming service launched in 2018 and served as WarnerMedia’s hub for the company’s scripted superhero series old and new, such as the early 2000s “Justice League” series, as well as original shows such as “Doom Patrol” and “Swamp Thing.” WarnerMedia will relaunch the platform as DC Universe Infinite on January 21, 2021 as a digital comic book service that will boast more than 24,000 titles at launch. The company stated that the new platform will feature DC fan events and recently released comics six months after their physical versions hit retailers. The service will also offer original comics and customers will

‘Pen15’ Review: Season 2 Is All the Joy and Pain of Adolescence Captured in One Excellent Comedy

‘Pen15’ Review: Season 2 Is All the Joy and Pain of Adolescence Captured in One Excellent Comedy
When “Pen15” first premiered, it came with a lot of questions. Was it a satire? Was it a sketch? Was it yet another attempt by Hollywood to mine our collective nostalgia for cold hard cash? After all, the Hulu comedy’s initial calling card was that two 30-something women were playing seventh graders, surrounded by a supporting cast of actual adolescents, in a ’90s show filled with landline phone calls, outrageous outfits, and an unnervingly real recreation of teenage Aim etiquette.

But just as Season 1 proved to the world what “Pen15” isn’t — it’s sincere, not satiric, hilarious but not a sketch, and nostalgic only when you aren’t quaking with horror from all that excruciating teenage angst — its debut also proved to its creators what these characters could do. Thanks to convincing performances, beautifully evoked empathy, and top-notch detail in its production and writing, Anna (played by Anna Konkle
