7 June 2020 Sticky is reopening!!
Hey zine fans!
It’s been a long few weeks but we are happy to announce that we are finally getting back to Sticky as of Wednesday the 10th of June! Like most places, we will be reopening with a few changes to how we usually run so please read over these changes before coming down.
Reduced capacity - due to the government recommendations we can only have 4 people in the shop at a time. This is inclusive of our volunteers so we will only be able to allow two patrons in at any one time. This is inclusive of children you may have with you, if you are the parent or guardian of more than one child please consider the logistics of this, as someone will need to wait outside. Please be mindful that we may also need to ask you how long you think you will be if we see that someone has been waiting to come in for a while.
Reduced hours - we’ll be closing up an hour early during the week, so we’ll be doing 12 to 5pm, Wednesday to Saturday, at least until winter is over. This will allow our volunteers to start making it home before night properly sets in, which will help keep them healthy and able to volunteer.
Reduced services - until the restrictions lift further you will be able to do three things at Sticky: photocopy, make badges and of course buy and stock zines. Due to the reduced capacity of the store we’re sorry to say that we are not able to accommodate hang-outs for the time being, so you will not be able to use the table for anything other than badge making as we are unable to accommodate you in the space for long periods of time. This means that all other stationery and equipment will be put away and unable for use. You will need to bring in your badge designs already printed out, the cutters will still be available to you to use, but you will not be able to draw your own designs in store. We’re really sorry about this, but hopefully it’ll only be until restrictions lift further.
When coming into the shop we will ask you to sanitise your hands and that you do not touch anything in the shop until your hands are dry. This is to help protect the zines, as we know hand sanitizer is not the best for them, however we need to try and protect everyone else, too.We are not required to keep a list of names of people who visit the space, and so we will not be doing so. Having said this, if you do find that you have been to the shop and test positive with a two week timeframe, please let us know ASAP so we can let everyone know that if they were also in the space on a certain day, they may need to get tested too. We will not name and or shame you, but we will need to let the community know that this has happened.
As always we remain Cash Only, but we’re really looking forward to getting back to work and seeing what everyone has made during the break! If you have any questions or need clarification on anything please don’t hesitate to email us at downstairs@stickyinstitute.com!
See you soon!!1 June 2020 This month we are asking zinesters to create an instructional zine that shares their skills with the community!
1 May 2020 During the month of May, we are asking you to experiment with the zine making tool Electric Zine Maker! This quirky tool was created by alienmelon and can be downloaded from itch.io.
Once you’re done, upload your zine to the zine library or just click through to see what everyone else has been up to!

QZC is an online hub for the zine community to engage with the spirit of zines during this period of isolation. On this platform you will be able to read zines, submit your own zines & create zines inspired by a monthly prompt!
We’d love for you to browse through our library and submit your zines to share with everyone! You also have two weeks to create a zine inspired by the April zine prompt: 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗬 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘

We will be in touch with you all to let you know when we can open our doors again. It is Sticky’s 19th birthday on April the 1st.
