    लोकमान्य तिलक अस्पृश्यता के प्रबल विरोधी थे। उन्होंने 1918 में मुंबई के एक सम्मेलन में कहा था कि यदि ईश्वर अस्पृश्यता को स्वीकार करते हैं तो मैं ऐसे ईश्वर को स्वीकार नहीं करता। उस समय इस प्रकार की बात और इसके प्रति कटिबद्धता लोकमान्य तिलक जैसा कोई साहसी व्यक्ति ही कर सकता था।

    आदि शंकराचार्य जी ने गीता के संन्यास भाव को लोगो के सामने रखने का काम किया था और लोकमान्य तिलक जी ने जेल के अंदर रहते हुए ‘गीता रहस्य’ लिखकर गीता के अन्दर के कर्मयोग को लोगो के सामने लाने के काम किया। ‘गीता रहस्य’ आज भी संसार में अनेक लोगों के जीवन को दिशा प्रदान कर रही है।
