I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Of frog droppings and tax avoidance

The fact that Thomas has to resort to puerile name calling rather than rational analysis highlights the paucity of logical arguments those defending tax avoidance by big business have. Yours in frog droppings, sandal-wearing, muesli-chewing and bike riding on pedestrian walkways

Big business, it is time to come clean on tax

This is a link to my article in Monday’s Canberra Times on tax avoidance. I end up by saying: ‘If big business wants to win back the trust of working class taxpayers who pay more tax than them, in some cases literally and in many cases as a percentage of their income, then it is time for those companies to explain how it is that their tax contribution is zero or small. After all if they have nothing to hide they should have nothing to fear from telling us their full tax story.’ Click here for the link to the full article.

Big business tax avoidance

The ATO’s recent ‘Corporate Tax Transparency Report’ is reason to be “screaming from the rooftops for the companies in this list to explain how they have been exploiting us for years”, according to former Assistant Commissioner of Taxation, John Passant.

Hillary Clinton is the candidate of Corporate America and business as usual in Washington

Hillary Clinton is mouthing populist rhetoric, but why should anyone believe her? asks Socialist Worker US. She is the candidate of Corporate America and business as usual in Washington.

Labor’s ‘crackdown’ on tax avoidance: Shorten fiddles and revenue burns

Labor’s tax avoidance crack down statement was the old pea and thimble trick. It wants to give the impression of doing something about big business tax avoidance (always a popular issue among ordinary workers) without really frightening the big business horses. Pathetic is the word that comes to mind.

Citizens against Tax Avoiders

I wonder if we could set up an activist group in Australia targeting the big business tax avoiders or those big businesses which pay little or no tax. A bit like Uncut in the UK is targeting the tax avoiders/low tax paying big businesses there. The miners, News Ltd Australia, PBL, Texas Pacific Group, the banks […]

Cut aid to business – not the disability pension

Instead of attacking disability pensions or schools in Indonesia, or environmental programs, Julia Gillard, why doesn’t Labor tax big business and stop spending tens of billions on the rich through the tax system. Labor?

We cut company taxes while aboriginal kids starve

Aboriginal children starve while billionaires stop a minor tax to protect their mega profits. The bankruptcy of capitalism and its priorities is clear.

When Labor is a better friend to business than the Liberals

If Liberals are friends of capitalists the Labor Party is the friend of capital. The controversy over the Resource Super Profits Tax (RSPT), announced by the Rudd government in its response to the Henry Tax Review, is the latest illustration of this longstanding relationship. The largest chunk of the revenue from the new tax will […]

Cricket’s imperialist masters beaten

The defeat of the Australian cricket team shows that Australian capitalism and its products are not invincible. It is a lesson workers could well learn.
