I am not surprised
I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Labor – build a radical mass civil rights movement for marriage equality

If Labor really wants to win marriage equality then my suggestion is they build and lead a mass, radical, civil rights campaign rather than playing parliamentary games. Mass movements move society. Politicians respond, not lead, on issues like this.

Scott Morrison’s taxed-nots

Scott Morrison’s “taxed nots” rhetoric is a cruel victimisation of Australia’s most vulnerable, writes John Passant in Independent Australia. To read the whole article click here. ScoMo’s taxed-nots

Why not tax the rich instead of screwing the poor?

I wrote this back in May for Independent Australia. It contains some of those pesky things called facts that rebut the Morrison lies about the taxed and the not taxed. Why not tax the rich instead of screwing the less well off?

Police, the NBN, Parliament and free speech

To me the Australian police raids on Senator Conroy and his staff look very much like a gross abuse of process and an attempt to undermine democracy and one of its outlets, parliamentary privilege. They are also I suspect an attempt to silence any future whistleblowers who might reveal inconvenient truths about this or other governments. We are losing our freedoms over time and the NBN police raids on Conroy and his staff are just another striking example of that loss.

From France to Australia: Women measuring up and measuring up women

With the burkini ban in France, the schoolgirl porn website scandal in Australia and the reaction to it from Melbourne’s Kambyra College, last week was a “great week” for women, writes John Passant in Independent Australia. French burkini ban: Women measuring up and measuring up women

Trotsky remains relevant

On the 75th anniversary of the assassination of the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky, Sue Caldwell in Socialist Worker UK asked last year if his ideas could help activists fighting for another world today

Hansonite thugs invade Gosford’s Anglican Church

The Gosford incident, the Nauru files, Don Dale and increasing racial violence are indicative of wider systemic racism, writes John Passant in Independent Australia.

Hanson fans invade a church

The time has come for all decent thinking people to unite and take real action to shut down the puppets of hate and fear and their political masters in the Government and Opposition. Let’s take to the streets and shut down our cities to shut down Don Dale, to shut down Nauru and to stop the fascists.

First they came for our toilets

This is just another way for Hanson to attack ‘Asians’. I wonder what positions Aboriginal people and Muslims adopt to excrete? No doubt Senator Hanson will enlighten us soon. The question is ridiculous of course but given Aboriginal people and Muslims are, along with Asians, a target of Pauline Hanson, can we now expect some sort of One Nation guide to correct shitting shitting to identify the dangerous ‘other’? The age of irrationality from the ruling class and their fearful is upon us.
