I think we are being unfair to this Abbott ‘no surprises’ Government. I am not surprised. (0)

Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

Obama is the guilty one, not Assange

Wikileaks is the latest target of those who bring us war, want and repression. It challenges in a small way the untrammelled rule of the war mongers and so Wikileaks must feel the iron heel of their order.

17 percent pay increases should fix the high cost of living

Why don’t we learn a lesson from the bosses? If annual pay increases of 17 percent are OK for them, they’re OK for us too.

Is Labor’s decline terminal?

So why did Labor lose? Neoliberalism. The ALP is one of the two parties of neoliberalism, the idea that the market delivers the best outcomes for society.

Paul Hogan’s tax case to continue?

The difficulties in gathering information and continuing prosecutions that the ACC identified justify more Wickenby powers, not less, and more Wickenby resources, not less, to combat international tax evasion and avoidance.

Have your say – Saturday’s socialist speak out

There’s an election on in Victoria. The latest polling gives the Liberals a good chance of winning. The neoliberal Labor Party is making the neoliberal Liberal Party look good. The question for me is how will the Greens go?  Other than that the battle between US and Chinese imperialism is hotting up over Korea, with both sides rattling […]

Ark – one of our tribe

The only way to smash the ABCC is to strike and cut off the flow of profits to the building bosses. Workers did that in 1969 with Clarrie O’Shea. They struck and smashed the penal powers then. They can do the same today with the ABCC.

UK education attacks – it’s about class: Join the fight for socialism

Tory education minister Michael Gove claims that the Socialist Workers Party was behind the student protests. We are glad to have played our part in the fightback. But the reality is that up and down the country thousands of students protested because they are furious at the government’s attacks—not because anyone “instructed” them to. However, […]

Idealism and the Labor Party

There’s a Greens’ poster that sums up the problem the right wing hacks of the ALP have. It reads ‘My principles haven’t changed – my vote has.’

No amount of pontificating from anti-reform and pro-boss politicians like Swan is going to change that now.

Equal pay: Julia Gillard ‘offended’

Why not tax the rich to pay for wage justice for women? Why not use some Defence money to fund the pay increase? Perhaps the Labor Government could withdraw from Afghanistan and use the $2 billion saved by doing that to pay for wage justice for women workers.

But Gillard won’t do any of that. She’ll cut back on services to the poor and working class. If we let her.

Her allegiance is to her class – the bourgeoisie. That’s why she chooses war over working women.

“End this disgusting war”: an interview with Malalai Joya

Today the situation for women in Afghanistan is as disastrous as it was under the domination of the Taliban.
