This is an article from the Australian Services Union about two workers Geelong Council sacked after they filled in hazardous potholes in their lunchtime. Here is the link.
Australian Services Union Victorian Branch Assistant Secretary Igor Grattan has announced that the Union will do whatever it takes to get unfairly sacked members Mick Van Beek and Peter Anderson their jobs back at the City of Greater Geelong’s Drysdale depot.
Van Beek and Anderson were unjustly sacked after the pair filled in two pot holes hazardous to elderly patrons of the Leopold Sportsman Club last November during their lunch break, receiving two free steak sandwiches at management’s insistence a week later.

Grattan is shocked the Council went to such lengths over two workers simply being Good Samaritans.
The Council’s decision to sack these workers is harsh, unfair and unjust. The punishment clearly outweighs the alleged conduct, and the ASU will be doing everything within its power to help get these two men their jobs back. We are willing to fight for their rights until a fair resolution is reached.
In support of the pair, hundreds of work colleagues, friends and family were in attendance at a rally at Geelong City Hall last night, urging councillors to reinstate Van Beek and Anderson.
Earlier, council workers at the City of Greater Geelong walked off the job to rally at Johnstone Park to express their views on what can only be described as unfair dismissals.
The ASU is still awaiting a response from Council as to whether they are willing to reconsider their decision and reinstate Van Beek and Anderson.
