Send Barnaby to Indonesia
It is a pity that Barnaby Joyce, a man of tact, diplomacy, nuance and subtlety, isn’t going to Indonesia to fix things up. I know I am disappointed that Barnaby is missing out on this great opportunity, and I am sure the Indonesians feel the same way. [Sarcasm alert.] (0)

National Union of Students National Day of Protest: Abbott & Pyne Hands Off our Education!

NUS National Day of Protest: Abbott & Pyne Hands Off our Education!

Wednesday, 26 March 2014

Time 14:00

Where?

Every major city

Christopher Pyne has tabled a bill in Parliament to cut 900million from higher education and another bill to cut Centrelink start up scholarships, a vital lifeline for tens of thousands of students who already live below the poverty line.

He has also commissioned right wing neoliberal hatchet men and women (eg. ex Howard govt education minister, Amanda Vanstone) to look into attacking students by raising fees and selling off student debt to private investors.

And as well as fiscal conservatism, the Pyne/Abbott government also wants to impose their social conservatism on students. Pyne is on a rampage to further emphasise the supposed glories of Western civilisation and the Judeo-Christian ethic in the high school curriculum and he has the same hopes for higher education. Many disciplines like Indigenous studies and gender studies are (further) endangered under this government.

Students need to come out in a show of force against Pyne’s callous attacks on our right to education and our quality of education.

There will be demonstrations in every major city on Wednesday March 26th as part of a National Day of Action organised by the National Union of Students.

For more info or for the details of the rally happening in your state, contact the National Union of Students Education Officer, Sarah Garnham: 0423 742 453, sjgarnham@gmail.com
