The Marxism 2013 conference, held in Melbourne over the Easter weekend, was the biggest and the most successful to date write the editors of Socialist Alternative. Some 1,140 people came to participate in debates and discussions and to hear stories of the struggle from Australia and the world.

And that was just the first 2 hours! With speakers like John Pilger, Billy X Jennings from the Black Panther Party, Gary Foley, Gerry Rivera, Brian Jones and a range of other international and local speakers the next 3 days of Marxism promises to be very exciting. This year’s Marxism 2013 conference in Melbourne over the Easter weekend is organising a School of Rebellion for young people and children to participate in. Jorge Jorquera in Socialist Alternative explains the concept.

The School of Rebellion isn’t about testing and ‘achievement’ but about learning and agency. It’s not a school, like every other, where education is bound to commerce and productivity but rather one where knowledge and learning are connected to justice and authentic democracy.
