Born from the pen of Davis Dresser aka "Brett Halliday," private investigator Michael "Mike" Shayne made his debut in 1939 in the novel "Dividend On Death." Seventy-seven novels, 300 short stories, a dozen films, a radio program, and a television show later, and Dell Comics (Mike's paperback publisher) licensed him for comics. The two-fisted Miami detective starred in a three issue run of four-color adventures under the MIKE SHAYNE PRIVATE EYE title. Dell Comics hired staff writer Ken Fitch, and artist Edd Ashe to craft the three comics. Fitch and Ashe did something unusual and adapted three of the classic Brett Halliday novels to comics instead of coming up with original stories. Faithful to the source material: "The Private Practice of Michael Shayne," "Bodies Are Where You Find Them," and " Heads, You Lose!" , Fitch and Ashe created an unusual comic for its early sixties time period. Pulp 2.0 is pleased to restore and re-present these comics to fans of both classic comics and hard-boiled crime fiction. We have remastered these pages to give you a more pleasant reading experience with your favorite private eye. Included is bonus material covering the history of Mike Shayne in the media by renowned crime author Paul Bishop (the Detective Fey Croaker series, TV's Take the Money and Run, 52 Weeks • 52 Western Novels—A Guide To Six-Gun Favorites and New Discoveries).

I come to publishing and multimedia development from a background in motion picture production and marketing. After working as a crew person for numerous indie, TV, and blockbuster films such as DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE, I moved to Hollywood and co-wrote and produced the very successful independent movies SCARECROW and its sequel SCARECROW SLAYER. I have also developed and marketed over 100 movie campaigns for independent films worldwide. I was the Associate Producer on the Omega Entertainment motion picture ".COM FOR MURDER" starring Nastassja Kinski, Roger Daltry, Huey Lewis, and Nicollette Sheridan.

I hold degrees in film and history and served in the United States Air Force with the 4450th Tactical Group which headquartered the F-117A Stealth Fighter. I bring a wealth of weirdness to this job as author, and hope you enjoy my books.

Pulp 2.0's MIKE SHAYNE PRIVATE EYE comic collection is an exceptionally fine package, with carefully-reproduced reprints of the three-issue Dell Comics originals, accompanied by a nice selection of bonus materials, including a new introduction from crime author Paul Bishop and a selection of vintage paperback covers and film one-sheets. Fans of Brett Halliday's detective will want to put this terrific archival paperback collection on their shelves next to their Mike Shayne novels. Highly recommended.

In the early 1960's Dell Comics was a major player, with dozens of titles. Heavy with television and movie tie-ins they experimented constantly. One such experiment was MIKE SHAYNE, PRIVATE EYE. It lasted for three issues, and after you read a couple of pages, you'll see why.

At the same time, Marvel Comics was a minor player, with a few space monster and western titles. The first issues of MIKE SHAYNE and FANTASTIC FOUR went on sale the same month in 1961.

This is a high quality reprint of the old Mike Shayne comic books from the 1960's. The comics were pretty sophisticated for their time and contain surprisingly adult themes that somehow escaped notice of the comic book censors off the day. This volume is worth it's weigh in gold mainly because the legendary fiction writer, Paul Bishop, wrote the introduction detailing the Mike Shayne character and how it tied into his own writing. It's well worth a shot.
