Fifty years after publishing its first issue, “America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine” remains a seditious spirit in music and culture. The Museum of Interesting Things takes you back to the beginning of music film history! The first music videos were Soundies on 16mm film. Come virtually view them, as well as items from a vast collection of musical antiques from all eras of history. Vintage music players will be demonstrated and played. Every Friday afternoon on the stream from now until the lockdown ends, we’re throwing a weekly series of parties to dance away the crazy. For our August 14 show, Matt Fiveash returns to his broadcast alma mater Give The Drummer Radio as he tries to get you to dance like no one’s watching. Without hewing to any particular style of music, an attempt will be made to make the ingredients taste good together. Rock and Roll (whatever that is), Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Funk, Disco, Island rhythms, goofy summer oldies, and hopefully some stuff with curse words in it since we will be out from under the iron hand of the FCC. Tune in and shake-a-you boogie through the generously proportioned Friday happy hour!

DANNY SAYS is a documentary on the life and times of Danny Fields. Since 1966, Danny Fields has played a pivotal role in music and “culture” of the late 20th century: working for The Doors, Cream, Lou Reed, Nico, Judy Collins and managing groundbreaking artists like The Stooges, The MC5 and The Ramones. DANNY SAYS follows Fields from Phi Beta Kappa whiz-kid, to Harvard Law dropout, to the Warhol Silver Factory, to Director of Publicity at Elektra Records, to “punk pioneer” and beyond. Danny’s taste and opinion, once deemed defiant and radical, has turned out to have been prescient. DANNY SAYS is a story of marginal turning mainstream, avant-garde turning prophetic, as Fields looks to the next generation.

Many of you may be wondering why your swag (otherwise known as your fundraising-marathon goodie pack) has not yet arrived at your humble abode. The main reason is that the volunteer army that usually helps us to ship out your swag isn’t in the picture this year, so it’s just a handful of us in the WFMU skeleton crew sending out as much as we can when we can. Maybe you’re home a lot more, and that old junker in the backyard you keep seeing through the window is starting to get under your skin. Well, maybe now is the time to donate it to WFMU and get it off of your hands! WFMU accepts all old cars (and boats), running or not running, from any state in the U.S. Call 1-855-WFMU-CAR (855-936-8227) to arrange for vehicle pick-up (it’s free and easy). The CARS folks have assured us that they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure your safety during pick-up of the vehicle, so get rid of that old heap today and help WFMU at the same time. We get 80% of every vehicle donated!
