  19. Flight Lieutenants Gunjan Saxena and Srividya Rajan - India's first women combat aviators who went all guns blazing into the heart of the war zone that was Kargil, 21 years ago. Respect🙌🎂💕🙏

Flight Lieutenants Gunjan Saxena and Srividya Rajan - India's first women combat aviators who went all guns blazing into the heart of the war zone that was Kargil, 21 years ago, are names that got lost in time. Names that we should have never forgotten in the first place. While things were hard for women in male dominated fields like the Air Force as they had to try extra hard to prove their mettle, Gunjan’s and Srividya’s valor and exemplary courage paved the way for the Air Force to take in more female IAF Officers.
Women pilots started being inducted as fighter pilots only in 2016, however, Gunjan Saxena and Srividya Rajan set the precedent in 1999 when they took their tiny, unarmed and defenseless Cheetah helicopters in and out of the danger zone in North Kashmir. They were tasked with medical evacuations and supply drops, and even spotting enemy positions in the war zone. In one of the attacks, a rocket was fired at Gunjan’s chopper that was ready to take off, missing it by a hair
