NORTHSIDE Chicken Rhythms 1991

Northside are a band from Moston, Manchester, England, that borrowed heavily from the Madchester scene of the time. Formed in 1989, they released their only album Chicken Rhythms on Factory Records in 1991. The band became known for their live shows as part of what was the 1990 indie-rave scene. Their style was more to do with The Charlatans, as opposed The Stone Roses.

LARD Last Temptation of Reid 1990

Lard is a hardcore punk/Industrial band founded in 1988 as a side project by Jello Biafra (vocals), Al Jourgensen (guitar), Paul Barker (bass), and Jeff Ward (drums).[1] Biafra is perhaps best known as the former frontman of the punk rock band Dead Kennedys. Jourgensen is the founder and only continuous member of industrial metal band Ministry, of which Barker was an official member between 1988 and 2004, and Ward was also once a touring member. Over the years, several other members of Ministry played with Lard, namely Bill Rieflin, Mike Scaccia, and Rey Washam.

Like most of Biafra's work, Lard's songs are angrily political (the War on Drugs is a particularly common theme) but often have a tinge of humour.

Velocity Girl was an American indie rock band formed in 1989 in College Park, Maryland, although it was generally known as a Washington, DC-area band. The band took its name from a Primal Scream B-side. While much 1990s rock music featured an abrasive vocal and instrumental style, Velocity Girl's sound, especially post-1993, was more melodic and typically featured "clean" (non-distorted) electric guitar sounds and two-part harmonies. However, on their first seven-inch records on Slumberland and Merge, as well as their first Sub Pop album, Copacetic, Velocity Girl were noted for their shoegaze influences. The band was noted for its love of releasing a steady stream of 7" vinyl singles. Slumberland Records was formed in 1989 by members of several D.C.-area bands, including Velocity Girl.

L7 was formed by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner on shared electric guitar and shared vocals. A year previous, Gardner had performed backing vocals on the Black Flag song "Slip It In". The punk rock duo were soon joined by Jennifer Finch on bass guitar and Roy Koutsky on drums. Koutsky left shortly after and Demetra Plakas ("Dee" for short) became their permanent drummer.

The band's name derives from a 1950s slang phrase meaning "square," but is often mistaken for a reference to the sex position, "69".

DICKLESS

Dickless was a short lived all-girl band from Seattle, Washington. Signed to Sub Pop records, they released their only record in May 1990.

The original line-up consisted of Kelly Canary (vocals), Kerry Green (guitar), Jana McCall (bass), and Lisa Smith (drums). Jennie Trower eventually replaced McCall on bass guitar, while Meagan Jasper replaced Canary on vocals in the band’s later days.

Karen Finley (b. 1956, Evanston, Illinois) is a controversial American performance artist, whose theatrical pieces and recordings have often been labelled "obscene" due to their graphic depictions of sexuality, abuse, and disenfranchisement. She was notably one of the NEA Four, four performance artists whose grants from the National Endowment for the Arts were vetoed in 1990 by John Frohnmayer after the process was condemned by Senator Jesse Helms under "decency" issues.

While primarily known for his percussion work with the influential industrial group Einstürzende Neubauten, he has also collaborated with KMFDM, Goethes Erben and recorded several albums in collaboration with other musicians (such as Andreas Ammer, Ulrike Haage) and solo. FM Einheit was also involved in the projects Stein and Gry.

Dig formed in 1991 in Los Angeles; vocalist Scott Hackwith had previously produced for The Ramones, and guitarist Dix Denney had played with The Weirdos and Thelonious Monster.[1] After releasing an EP in 1992, they signed with Radioactive Records and issued their first full-length in 1993, produced by Dave Jerden. The single "Believe" was played regularly on MTV's Buzz Bin[1] and was their lone charting hit, reaching #19 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart[2] and #34 on the Mainstream Rock chart.[3] The group issued two further full-lengths in 1996 and 1999.

SUN 60 self titled 1992

Sun-60 (later Sun 60 without the hyphen) were a Los Angeles Alternative rock band from 1987-1996.

The band was notable for the vocal gymnastics of Joan Jones, the guitar riffs of David Russo, clever song-writing, and an eclectic combination of styles, including folk, alt rock, pop, and blues.

Despite a cult following, considerable commercial potential, and moderate success both as a touring live act and on record, the band never quite caught on, and split in 1996.

Linda Perry was lead singer of 4 Non Blondes, who released one album then took off for greener pastures. In 1995, Perry released After Hours which remains my favourite solo release. She really put her soul into this and her voice is just as strong as ever. Perry is also well known as a talented producer, sound engineer, musician and songwriter, having penned songs for such artists as Pink and Cristina Aguilera. I don't really think there is much that this woman cannot do.

DIVINYLS Underworld 1996

In 1991, the Divinyls received international acclaim with their hit I Touch Myself. However, long before that hit, where many Americans finally "discovered" the band, the Divinyls were ripping up the stages all around the world and had released 4 prior albums, all unfortunately ignored by American rock radio. After their self titled release in 1991, it was another 5 years before the Divinyls released their last full length CD, Underworld.
The Divinyls regrouped in 2007, did a mini-tour of Australia and released a single, "Don't Wanna Do This."

They were housed in cardboard sleeves. The track listing for this sampler is incorrect. The 22nd song is by El Vez "Esta Bien Mamacita" and the 23rd song is Pop Defect "Bob Says No!"

The Muffs are a rock band based in Southern California, formed in 1991.

After releasing their initial 7" EPs and singles independently and on local labels, The Muffs signed to Warner Bros. Records in the early '90s and released their self-titled album in 1993. The Muffs were eventually dropped from the label. The Muffs have since continued to release new records on various independent labels.

The Muffs' leader is singer-songwriter Kim Shattuck. The original lineup also included guitarist Melanie Vammen (like Shattuck, a former member of 1980s all-female garage rock outfit The Pandoras), bassist Ronnie Barnett and drummer Criss Crass. Vammen and Crass left after the band's self-titled debut album. Crass was replaced by Jim Laspesa after their 1993 tour with the Goo Goo Dolls, and later by Roy McDonald in 1994. The Muffs have been a 3-piece since 1995 with members Kim Shattuck, Ronnie Barnett and Roy McDonald.

The Muffs are currently taking a long break from music but have announced they have not broken up.

Forged in the gritty, unforgiving depths of the Denver punk scene in 1985, The Fluid was one of the most powerful and hardest-hitting acts of the late ’80s and early ’90s. Composed of vocalist John Robinson, drummer Garrett Shavlik, bassist Matt Bischoff, and guitarists James Clower and Rick Kulwicki, the band was the first non-Seattle signing by the initially provincial Sub-Pop label, which released the group’s scorching sophomore album, Clear Black Paper, in 1988. (The quintet’s debut, Punch N Judy, was released on Denver’s Ray-On Records in 1986 and was later reissued on Germany’s Glitterhouse imprint.)
