Peter Ivers, a Harvard-educated musician with a gregarious personality and a flair for the theatric, was the host for the entire run of the show...New Wave Theatre came to an end in 1983 when Ivers was found bludgeoned to death in his LA apartment.

My Father's Place was one of the premier venues on Long Island back in the '80s. Promoter Michael "Eppy" Epstein and 92.7FM WLIR broadcast many live, on-the-air concerts which lead to increased national attention of mostly lesser known bands. Many of these classic performances were caught on tape.
...Both Club80 and I have seen numerous shows at My Father's Place. It closed down years ago but it will always stand out in my musical memory.

The Waitresses released "Christmas Wrapping" in 1981. But...not on this date or even in December. It was originally released as part of a holiday compilation called A Christmas Record which had contribution from various artists. It was then re-released on November 3, 1982. However, it just seemed more appropriate to post this now. The Waitresses were a new wave band who originally formed in Ohio but moved to New York to gain valuable experience and exposure. They disbanded in 1983. Singer Patty Donahue died of lung cancer on December 9, 1996 at the age of 40.

Havana 3am was the short-lived post-Clash band of bassist Paul Simonon formed shortly after the official Clash break up in 1986.
The band consisted of Simonon on bass, American musician Gary Myrick on guitar, Nigel Dixon from the British band Whirlwind on lead vocals, and Travis Williams, a drummer who they found by a newspaper announcement. In essence, it was a rockabilly band with a heavy Latino and reggae influence. The band recorded a self-titled album in Japan in 1991.

On this date in 1981, Meat Puppets released their self-titled debut album. It was different than most albums as it was fourteen songs played at 45rpm. The album was different than their later stuff also in that it is pure hardcore punk, unlike their later material which softened quite a bit. When the album was re-released on CD, it was expanded to include the In A Car EP and thirteen other bonus tracks. The band hailed from Arizona.
