How to use Periscope on web

How to use Periscope if you don't have an iOS or Android device 

Even without an iOS or Android device, you can still watch Periscope broadcasts on web.

To view an endless stream of popular broadcasts you can visit periscope.tv/couchmode. You can also locate a specific account’s web profile. 

If you're having trouble viewing broadcasts on web, make sure you have Flash installed on your computer. Also check your browser settings to make sure Flash is enabled.

How to sign up for and log into Periscope on web

Our web experience allows you to log into your account and join as a member of the audience so you can comment and send hearts in any broadcast. 

You can sign up for an account and login using Twitter, Facebook, Google, or a phone number. To sign up for and log into Periscope on web, go to www.pscp.tv.

Signing up with A Twitter, Facebook or Google account

  1. Select Sign up at the top of the page. 
  2. A modal will appear. Select Create New Account.
  3. Select Twitter, Facebook, or Google. The account you select will be your primary login method once your account is created. This can’t be changed.
  4. Enter your login credentials and sign into your selected account. If you have login verification setup for your account, you’ll need to complete this.
  5. Select a username and display name.
  6. Once authenticated, your account will be created and you’ll remain on the web home page. 

Signing up with a phone number

  1. Select Sign up at the top of the page.
  2. A modal will pop up. Select Create New Account.
  3. Select Phone Number. The phone number you select will be your primary login method once your account is created. This can’t be changed.
  4. Enter your phone number, complete the captcha, and select Verify.
  5. An SMS message will be sent to your device with a verification code. Enter this code in the provided field.
  6. Select a username and display name.
  7. Once authenticated, your account will be created and you’ll remain on the web home page. 

Logging in with a Twitter, Facebook or Google account

  1. Select Log in at the top of the page.
  2. A modal will appear. Select Log in.
  3. Select Twitter, Facebook, or Google

What features can I use on web?

Once you're logged into Periscope on web, you will be able to do the following:

Comment in live broadcasts

  • Press enter to focus on the text input field and press esc to exit the text input field.
  • There is a cool down period (appears to be loading) after each comment before you can send another comment.

Heart in live broadcasts and replays

  • To send hearts during a broadcast, you can click on the heart in the bottom right corner of the screen or you can click the space bar.

Report broadcasts

  • Select the more icon to report the broadcast.

Report comments

  • To report a comment, select a comment and then select the more icon.

Follow/Unfollow 

  • Select a username from the web home page or while watching a broadcast to go to their web profile.
  • Once on their web profile, select Follow or Unfollow.

Block accounts

  1. Select a username from the web home page or while watching a broadcast to go to their web profile
  2. Once on their web profile, hover over the gear icon next to the Follow button and select Block @username.

Web shortcuts

Anytime watching

  • M: Mute
  • H: Enables cinema mode
  • P: Reveals sidebar

Couchmode watching

  • <RIGHT ARROW>: Triggers transition to next video

How to change the language of Periscope

Periscope is a global app and we want you to be able to find broadcasts in your preferred language. We've localized Periscope for web to support over 30 languages. If you watch broadcasts in a browser and you see a different language, you may need to change your browser settings:

Internet Explorer

  • When you install a copy of Internet Explorer version, your preferences are automatically set based on your Windows settings.
  • To change your language preferences go to Tools > Internet Options > General (tab) > Languages > Language preference

Firefox

  • To change your language preferences go to Tools > Options (Windows) or Firefox > Preferences (Mac OS X), and select Content (tab) > Languages > Choose (button).

Safari

  • On Mac OS X the language is specified in the OS X system language preferences. To change those preferences go to System Preferences > Language & text > Language

Google Chrome

  • To change your language preferences go to Options (Windows) or Chrome > Preferences (Mac OS X), and select Show Advanced Settings > Languages.

Opera

  • On Windows you can change your language preferences at Menu > Settings > Preferences > General > Language > Details (button).

Web profiles

Web profiles show live and recent broadcasts and heart counts. Profiles can be found at pscp.tv/username (insert the username of the account you’re looking for). If you’re having trouble viewing a web profile, try adding @ before the username: pscp.tv/@username.
