Mugabe rewards rapist

 ...self-proclaimed Reverend and founder of Destiny for Africa Network (Danet), Obadiah Msindo for the role he played in the controversial 2005 Parliamentary Elections.

Msindo, accused of raping his maid on five different occasions in July 2004 and has presided over several state functions at the Heroes Acre is now the proud owner of an S600 Mercedes Benz and a Lexus which he got from President Mugabe as ‘a token of appreciation’ for the role he played in the elections.

Highly placed sources privy to the happenings at Msindo’s lavish Rainbow Towers offices, indicated that besides recieving the two cars, the clergyman cum politician was also endowed with over $3 million and life time allowances such as receiving monthly grants for accommodation, free education for his children and fuel allocations every week.

The source, who works in the organisation’s accounts department said the payments were done through the director general of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), Happyton Bonyongwe.

“Danet received the funds through Bonyongwe after he (Msindo) wrote to Ignatius Chombo, the Minister of Local Government saying some members of the 21^st Housing Cooperative were claming compensation for the contributions they made to the party the past six or so years.

“Msindo used over $75 billion (old currency) campaigning for the ruling party in the 2005 elections. After the contributors decided threatened legal action against him (Msindo), he wrote to Chombo requesting for the money,” the source told ZimDaily. “In addition to the two cars, Msindo through his organisation (Danet) will see the government paying rates for the organisation, his two residential flats in Mabelreign and Avondale".

He also received a consignment of state of the art computers (10), laptops, office furniture and an interior decoration was done in all of the office’s rooms.”

The source indicated that although Msindo had requested the $50 billion to compensate the botched housing members, the government in turn spurned it saying they had other pressing issues to fulfil.

However, the cash strapped government has instead of reimbursing the contributors honoured Msindo for his help in the elections.

Some ZANU PF bigwigs like Chombo, Harare Commission Chairperson, Sekesayi Makwavarara, Police Commissioner, Augustine Chihuri and Ray Kaukonde are said to have pledged to help Danet compensate housing cooperative’s members their money used in the elections.

This is not the first time that the government has defended Msindo-the proud donor to Mugabe and his wife on their birthdays.

Sources within the Zimbabwe Republic Plaice (ZRP) have even indicated that Chihuri is successfully blocking  rape charges against Msindo. But Chihuri’s decision has divided the judiciary system, with the director of Public Prosecutions, Loice Matanda Moyo ordering his prosecution after responses by human rights organisation-Girl Child Network.

Msindo at one time likened President Mugabe to the biblical Moses when he convened a thanks-giving party in honour of the President in Harare last year.

The event, also attended by the President, saw roughly 6,000 people gather at the Harare International Conference Centre where he addressed them.

Msindo said it was time youths in this country learnt to appreciate heroes like Mugabe. “Some people cannot even handle a small plot of land and yet they are quick to criticise the President,” he said.

“Leadership comes from God and we must recognise that His Excellency is a black political, economic and cultural Moses. The President is fighting to break the dominance of the demons of neo-colonialism and imperialism.”

The Reverend also called for a radical restructuring of the education syllabi so that children could learn right from primary school about their true history and their role in the world. Despite all the praises and waffling, the Director of prosecutions, Loice Moyo said Msindo should be sent to jail for raping the maid.

She (Moyo) at onetime accused the police of sending the AG’s office an incomplete docket. “We found that rather unusual because how could they send us an incomplete docket and then ask for a legal opinion?

“They had not even questioned the accused. The normal procedure is for the police to send us a completed docket and if there is no evidence, then we can decline to prosecute.”

She then directed the police to charge Msindo with rape and record his warned and cautioned statement.

In the document, the police however, contended that the complainant had ample opportunity to report the alleged sexual abuse from the time she left Msindo’s employment and worked for two other families, only doing so after two tests found her not to be pregnant.

Various women organisations and human rights bodies interviewed said they would lobby and make sure that Msindo’s rape charges continue in courts.

So far two other Mugabe praise singers, the smaller 'fish', who never contributed any money to Zanu-PF are languishing in jail for similar offences. Lawrence Katsiru of the Apostolic sect who commanded his followers from the ruling party was slapped with an effective 7 years in jail for raping a 13 year old girl, while another Pastor, Madzibaba Nzira was slapped with a 32 year old jail term for raping a woman under his sect.

Like the two fanatics,  everyone, especially churches believe that the same should also happen to Msindo, regardless of his political affiliation.

You talk about Zimbabwe having been a prosperous nation, whose money was it? Did Africans have money? All the money in the country belonged to whites, which was trapped inside the country because under UDI they could not transmit money abroad. World Bank policies of the 1990s made it possible for them to sinphon money from abroad. At the same time there was little capital formation from the Africans because of Rhodesian policies. The whites are the ones who initiated the black market, as they sought to buy foreign currency to keep in their motherlands. That is why you guys in the UK, pay into someone';s account there and your relative receive local money in Zimbabwe. There is no capital formation here. If anyone has reined the country, it is those peop,e who are keeping foreign currency abroad.

Its a typical African response. I am trying here to give you an insight into some of the reasons why there is poverty in Zimbabwe today. The wealth you are referring to was an accumulation by whites, made on the backs of your forefather through, consfistication of land and livestock without compensation. African were forced into unpaid labour to build infrastructure. African workers were paid a low low wage, below the poverty datum line. Africans could as a general rule not buy housing in urban areas, except a few in Harare and Bulawayo, and usually without a mortgage facilite. I am raather flattered that Africans like yourself see the wealth created by dishonest means, and beloing to individuals, as national asset. I don't know what job you had in Zimbabwe. I bet it was probably in the public sector. If you had worked in the private sector, you would have noted the wages disparity between the white employees and Africans, even in your Zimbabwe. Since 1980 some Africans have made money. Many own houses in urban areas, something that did not exist prior to 1980. However the problem of inequitable distribution of income did not disappear with the advent of Zimbabwe. So there are many who are still poor, and even worse off because of the current political environment. I however want to advise you, Crispen that the way to make our point is to write down facts. Be prepared for challenge. Calling rude names does not win you an argument. It make yous you sound like a fool, a big fool actually.

You make me laugh because of your ignorance. Take time to read, real stuff. Check for the Rhodesia Journal of Economic which was edited by Tony Hawkins (now Professor at UZ). There you will find, in details, the socio-economic conditions of Africans. The housing ownership you are talking about, is not really, ownership. I have used the term social housing to mean housing provided by the council, or leased through the employer. Most of the houses, across all urban areas were rented from the council. Of course in the classic african thinking like yours , renting a house and owning a house means the say thing. Africans were able to buy houses immediately after 1980 when the Mugabe government made a policy change, and building societies were required to provide mortgate for the former townships. It is obvious that you are the one who is of little intellegence. However how can you arghue against facts, written by none other people than the whites themselves...even the issue of farm workers.
