On this date in 1979, The Monochrome Set released their debut single, "He's Frank". It was backed by "Alphaville". Neither track appeared on an album. The London post punk band rose from the ashes of a 1976 college band called The B Sides which included Stuart Goddard (Adam Ant). They released five albums before disbanding in 1985. They re-formed a few years later.

On this date in 1979, The Rude Kids released their second single, "Stranglers (If It's Quiet, Why Don't You Play?)". It was backed by "Punk Will Never Die!". Neither track appeared on a regular album. The A side was a direct response to The Stranglers' song, "Sweden (All Quiet on the Eastern Front)" which was, in itself in response to the rough treatment they received in Sweden on a recent tour. The Stockholm, Sweden punk band released two albums and several singles before disbanding in 1983.
