GDPR provides workers with a variety of rights with respect to their data, including right of access, right to rectification, and rights regarding automated decision-making. Additionally, Art. 40 of the GDPR establishes the possibility for groups of controllers to develop codes of conduct that clarify the application of GDPR to their particular sectors. This paper details the application of GDPR to labor platforms, provides draft text for an Art. 40 code of conduct for labor platforms, and discusses how such a code could help address procedural problems encountered by platform workers.

The ETUI has rapidly launched new online courses and enlarged its capacity. Moreover, we immediately have engaged in reinforcing and exploring new forms of digital learning and training. Beside our online courses, webinars are running more specifically for the ETUF’s and for EWC’s. This digital plan is now being develop for the entire Work Programme 20-21 and will be part of our next ones. Most of the trainings are design to support and reinforce our F2F courses and enlarge the ETUI general courses offer.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that highly mobile workers who frequently move either within or in and out of the European Union (EU) are irreplaceable during a public health crisis. Nevertheless, they often remain the least protected and most vulnerable.

At the end of April 2020, in the EU27 there were more than 42 million applications for support for workers on short-time work or similar schemes, which corresponds to about one quarter of the overall EU workforce. With its proposed SURE programme to provide financial support to national short-time work and similar systems, the European Commission has recognized the importance of short-time work for avoiding unemployment and supporting employees’ wages while at the same time allowing companies to adapt working hours to the drop in demand. Read more.

This issue explores several aspects of art as work. As a collective work of many, often invisible labourers. As a work generally carried out under conditions of great precarity and in which physical risks are often overlooked. As a work which often goes unpaid under the pretext that the practitioners are driven by passion.

On the other hand, poor conditions are a reality, and collective action and struggle is difficult. It is hindered by the often precarious nature of the work and sometimes by the illusion that the finished product, the final “work of art”, erases the material reality of the labour that created it. Read more (full download).

The ETUI is proud to launch its Covid Social Impact to monitor the social and employment consequences of the coronavirus (aka COVID-19) in European member states. Some content related to industrial relations, labour market, pension reforms, strikes are displayed for information but no longer updated at the moment. All our efforts are currently concentrated to collect all relevant information on the social impact of COVID-19 and the role of trade union organisations.
