Voodoo Doughnut recieved more than $1 million, but according to its staff, the company has done next to nothing to improve conditions for workers still on the shop floor during the covid crisis.

According to one staff member at the shop, "We haven't seen a cent in hazard pay and are being told the company is broke so we have to work at half staff every day" they continued, "They're working us to the bone and still taking money that we don't see a cent of."

Not only is the com...pany refusing to provide Hazard pay to it's at risk employees, but Voodoo Doughnut has failed to hire back enough union staff members to bolster its numbers, and instead is overworking its employees on consistent "skeleton crews". Understaffing and over working creates unsafe working conditions inside the shop, as well as posing a considerable difficulty to properly sanitizing the restaurant.

Another concerned staff member mentioned "I am stuck, [and] if I quit, I can't get unemployment." They continued "Right now they are very shorthanded. They can't hire [non-union] folks without making it obvious they are [messing with] the union peeps. They still are pushing for volume as high as they can. We are overworked and Unsafe and unsanitary in [this] pandemic."

With over $1 million in loans, one would imagine the company would address these concerns and provide hazard pay to their highly exposed and at risk employees. Proper staffing would also improve the sanitary conditions of the restaurant, as well as providing much needed relief to their already underpaid and overworked staff.
