                    E-waste

Staxck of electronic and electricall devices, including computer, DVD player, phones, fan and electric kettle
Did you know that e-waste (electronic waste) is anything with a plug, cord or battery? E-waste contains many potentially hazardous or valuable materials that don’t belong in landfill.

From 1 July 2019 the Victorian Government is banning all e-waste from landfill. This means that e-waste will not be allowed in the landfill bin.

E-waste can be dropped off for recycling and items will be taken apart, shredded, sorted and then recycled into new things. For example, old batteries are recycled into new batteries and precious metals can be recycled into jewellery or reused in new electronics.

E-waste doesn’t belong in landfill. Recycle yours this spring.

There are lots of options for recycling your e-waste in City of Melbourne.

Note: only appliances small enough to fit in the 240 litre e-waste bin are accepted. Larger items can be dropped off at our Waste and Recycling Centre.

                    Waste and Recycling Centre

City of Melbourne residents can drop off e-waste for free at Citywide’s Waste and Recycling Centre at 437 Dynon Road. This includes all items listed above under What will be accepted.

Residents dropping off e-waste for free must produce either a current City of Melbourne rates notice, driver licence or utility bill.

This service is not intended for commercial quantities. It is a service provided for City of Melbourne residents only.

E-waste recycling service for apartment buildings

At no cost, buildings of 20 apartments or more can arrange a bin to conveniently recycle electronic and electrical items, household batteries and power cords. Bins are available in 240 L and 660 L and come equipped with a sticker that shows the acceptable materials.

The service needs to be arranged by an authorised building representative (building manager, owners corporation manager or similar) and the bin needs to be kept undercover in a secure location.

Note: The e-waste service is flexible and allows buildings to arrange a temporary bin as required or arrange a direct replacement bin when the original bin is full.

Phone 03 9658 9658 to arrange a bin for your building.

                    See What will be accepted.
