Co-operative Party – Sharing Power & Wealth
Logo Subtitle Tight

Inequality is holding us back from the shared recovery we need. By widening ownership, we can narrow inequality and create a new normal – one where you own your workplace, own your community and own the future.

That's why we've launched our new report, Owning The Future, on how we can rebuild the economy post-Covid. Read the first chapter of the report now and sign-up to weekly updates as we share our plans for recovery.

Sharing power and wealth

We are the party of the co-operative movement, committed to building a society in where power and wealth are shared.

Democratic public ownership of the services and utilities we all rely on. Tackling the housing crisis through co-operative housing. Fans having a say in their sports club. Credit unions as an alternative to rip-off payday lenders. Shops owned by their customers that give back to the community.

Working in partnership with Labour, the Co-operative Party is a voice for co-operative values and principles from local communities up to the places where decisions are taken and laws are made.

Midweek Meetup Sharer Generic Solo

Coronavirus can’t stop us co-operating – and now you can join our new series of virtual events from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Say hello to Co-operation Live: every week you can tune in on Wednesday to chat about a wide range of topics – from food justice to fair trade – with expert speakers including MPs, councillors, community leaders and co-operative activists. As well as our weekly Midweek Meetup for members, as part of Co-operation Live we'll also be holding weekly Councillors' Calls – plus special one-off events for members, party officers and more.

Every day, more than 400 retail workers are attacked – just for doing their jobs.

The current Coronavirus crisis has demonstrated that shopworkers provide an essential public service, feeding the nation during a crisis. But that's not the only way they serve our country. From alcohol and cigarettes to knives and acid, there are now more than 50 types of products that are restricted by law. It's staff on the shop floor who we expect to enforce those laws, and who all too often pay the price in the form of violence, threats and verbal and physical abuse from customers. We ask shopworkers to uphold the law – but the law doesn't do enough to protect them.

That's why we're supporting a bill in Parliament to secure stronger protections for shopworkers and tougher penalties against those who assault or threaten them.

Click here to add your name in support of the bill now and spread the word on social media.

Millions of people in the UK are struggling to feed themselves and their families. We're working across the UK to bring attention to the food poverty crisis and deliver food justice.

Community Wealth

Community Wealth Building taps into the power of the local state

We believe in a society and economy driven by values, not profits.

Our vision is of a society and economy in which people's voices are heard; institutions and services are accountable to their users and staff, and ownership and wealth are shared.

We believe that co-operatives values are key to making that ambition a reality. We’re working in partnership with Labour to spark a radical shift in the size of the co-operative sector, and to bring key sectors like transport and utilities into democratic public ownership.

Co-operative elected representatives in Westminster, Holyrood, Cardiff Bay and in local government across the UK are working to put these ideas into practice – and our reach, membership and impact are growing.
