The Tarmon Road in Castlerea will close tomorrow for two months to realign the road and install a new bridge over the Tarmon River.

Local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice said the large project “will take time to complete”.

However, he said the road could potentially open in less than two months if the bedrock of the river allows it.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the new walkway and adult exercise machines for Somer’s Park in Castlerea.

Cllr Fitzmaurice said he was delighted to see some positive news for Castlerea.

He also called out for ideas as to how to utilise the remaining ground in the park.

“Personally, I would like a 9 hole mini-golf, a trailhead outdoor tourism office for the walking routes and an outdoor bowling green, of course synthetic for maintenance-free. We need more outdoor activities for young and old,” he said.
