Ballinasloe Civil Defence assisted in the rescue of six people on board a river cruiser near the Moycarn Marina on the River Suck on Sunday evening.

The civil defence was drafted in by the Irish Coast Guard when the cruiser’s engine failed at around 4pm.

“Within 30 minutes there was a crew of three equipped, rescue boat launched at the nearest slipway and on scene with the vessel,” Ballinasloe Civil Defence said in a statement.

“After a quick assessment of the vessel and the decision was made to take it under tow to the safety of Ballinasloe Marina.”

No injuries were reported by passengers and the civil defence deemed it a “successful call”.
