U2 is an undeniably popular band, and so I am surprised that somehow I always get hold of these double packs. The unforgettable fire was produced in large quantities, but Pride (In the name of love) was a rather more limited edition, and this 'Two hearts beat as one' double pack is probably even rarer.
I'm not really a U2 fan, but I love limited editions like this and a remix of 'New years day' was just too delicious to pass up on. It's one of my favourite U2 tracks, and the intro of this remix is beautiful. The US remixes were created by François Kevorkian. 'Two hearts beat as one' reached number 18 in the UK singles chart and number 2 in Ireland.
Tracks: 'Two hearts beat as one' / 'Endless deep' // 'New years day (US remix)' / 'Two hearts beat as one (US remix)'

A bit of U2 - Kiss AMC
Released in 1989, 'A bit of U2' is the debut single by Kiss AMC, featuring a sample of U2's 'New Year's Day'. This single was quite controversial because the title actually mentioned U2, something the band wasn't too happy about. Later copies would cut the word from the title, naming it 'A bit of...' instead. This is why I wanted to buy this copy, because it is a rarity in a way. And you know how much I like rarities.
Kiss AMC consisted of sisters Anne and Marie Copeland. They took a chance on using the sample but still got permission from the band to use it. Further singles by the duo were unsuccessful. Which really isn't much of a surprise if you listen to the B-side of this single.
My collection: 7" single no. 5432
Found: Music Exchange, London
Tracks: 'A bit of U2' / 'The raw side'

The single was released in February 1997 after the track had been leaked on the internet. There was a fear that this leak would harm sales, but of course it didn't: the single reached number 1 in the UK singles chart as well as in Ireland and New Zealand. In the Netherlands, 'Discotheque' reached number 9.

he single's B-side featured the song 'I've got you under my skin', as a duet between Bono and Sinatra, which was originally released on Sinatra's album 'Duets'. (I wonder how many U2 fans were excited about this track...) Released in November 1993, the single reached number number 4 in the UK singles chart and number 10 in the Dutch Top 40.

Bono has commented that the band were still dissatisfied with the track: 'It's a song I feel we didn't quite nail on the record because there was another whole set of lyrics that were dumped and I wrote those quickly and off we went.' The track was remixed for the single release. It reached number 14 in the UK singles chart and number 13 in the Dutch Top 40.

The unforgettable fire - U2

This is the double single edition of the title track, released in 1985. I was truly in love with this track at the time, and would have killed to get the double single my sister came home with in May of that year. Fortunately, these double singles weren't so hard to find in the Netherlands (unlike many other double singles at the time). Five tracks of pure genius. U2 were never again as good as they were back then.

Sunday bloody Sunday - U2
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623153620im_/http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/SrOVkY8V6iI/AAAAAAAAFpQ/-i7p04k-KxU/s200/u2-4.jpg)
It is one of U2's most overtly political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, mainly focusing on the Bloody Sunday incident in Derry where British troops shot and killed civil rights marchers. This re-released reached number 3 in the Dutch Top 40 in October 1985.

Pride (In the name of love) - U2
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623153620im_/http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/SlcGLEDoxgI/AAAAAAAAD_U/3iKzgEU3E14/s200/u2-2.jpg)
I consider 'Pride' to be U2's breakthrough single. It was the first one to reach the top 3 of the UK singles chart, peaking at number 3, and it was the first top 10 hit in the Netherlands, reaching number 8. The accompanying album 'The unforgettable fire' is an unmistakable classic which demands a luxury extended collectable ultimate edition of some sort. Now that's something I would buy...

Do they know it's Christmas? - Band Aid
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623153620im_/http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/SVOjyKGSosI/AAAAAAAAAi8/KEDMxCv2MuQ/s200/bandaid.jpg)
I bought the single as soon as it came out, although, strangely, I didn't like the song that much. There were just so many of my eighties idols participated that I felt I couldn't pass up on this historic single. Two decades later, it's somehow reassuring (or troubling) that everything has stayed the same in Africa: it's still a continent of war, hunger and drought.
