Although I already own a 12" single of Risqué's 'Burn it up (Mr. DJ)', there was still another one worth seeking out. This one is the original 12" single, released in the Netherlands when the single was released. And the remix is created by Dutch remix legend Ben Liebrand.
Fans will have been disappointed by the sleeve of this record, because it doesn't come in the same picture sleeve as the 7" single. But I do know that Risqué fan Jos will be excited by this extended version nonetheless.

Popmuzik (Hip Hop 1989 Re-mix) - M
This single serves to confuse matters more than they already were... Back in 2009 I bought the 1989 remix of 'Popmuzik', a UK release that was a hit in the UK. A year later I found the Ben Liebrand single edit, released in Europe. That single did not chart.
Enter this UK pressing of a 'Hip Hop 1989 re-mix' - also subtitled 'Ben Liebrand Re-mix'. A different sleeve, but it contains the same remix found on the European release. All I can conclude is that the record company was pretty busy with this track, but in all honesty it's quite confusing. All I know is that this version did not chart - the other one did.

Endless road - Time Bandits
The list of Time Bandits 12" singles continues with this remix of 'Endless road', released in 1985. This remix was created by Ben Liebrand, just like the prevous single Reach out. You will find that this remix is different from the one on the other 12" single of 'Endless road'.
On the B-side, the remix of 'I'm only shooting love' by Steve Thompson reappeared.

Dancing on a string - Time Bandits
Having bought a stack of Time Bandits 12" singles recently, you're bound to see more tracks of the band on this blog. This is the 12" single of 'Dancing on a string', the first of two in fact. I bought the single in 2010 and was pleasantly surprised - and this 12" extended mix continues that trend.
The remix was created by Ake Danielson, Kim Haworth and Ben Liebrand. The latter is of course well known for his many remixes for Dutch radio.

Reach out - Time Bandits
When a 12" single announces that a special re-mix is provided by Ben Liebrand, you know you're in for a treat. During the Eighties, Ben Liebrand made a name for himself by making remixes of chart hits on a weekly basis for a Dutch radio programme. Also, at the end of the year he would make a 60 minute remix containing much of the best and biggest hits of the year.
'Reach out' was released by the Time Bandits in 1984, when they had their biggest success with previous singles 'Listen to the man with the golden voice' and 'I'm only shooting love'. 'Reach out' doesn't quite have the same impact but this remix does make the song that much more attractive.

Ben Liebrand made a name for himself during the Eighties with his weekly remix on radio Veronica, and also managed to score a few hits of his own with remixes of oldies (some of which have featured on this blog in the past). This mix is certainly not one of his best, however it is quite a rarity.

Indeed, his remix is very different from the one on the other single - but less unsuccessful. While the UK version reached number 15 in the UK singles chart, this single did not chart in the Netherlands.

The remix has all the hallmarks of a Liebrand mix: a new dance beat, several elements from the original song and a good groove. And an interesting buy: these days you can't find this 12" single anywhere.

Englishman in New York (Ben Liebrand mix) - Sting

In 1990, just prior to the release of his third studio album The Soul Cages, Sting's record label licensed Dutch DJ and producer Ben Liebrand to remix the track and subsequently release it as a single. The remix played around with the introduction and some of the instrumentation, but the essence of the song remained the same. The new version was more successful, reaching number 15 in the UK singles chart in mid-1990.

Still, this 1990 remix of 'Dolce vita' did manage to become a hit in the Netherlands, peaking at number 31 in the Dutch Top 40. The original version knocks spots off this one, though.

Ben Liebrand made the 'Eclipse mix' of 'Ain't no sunshine' in 1989, after his remix of 'Lovely day' (another Bill Withers track) was a hit in 1988. This single was less successful, reaching number 26 in the Dutch Top 40 only.

One of them was 'Paranoimia '89', a remixed version omitting Max Headroom's vocals and based wholly on the music by Art of Noise. The remix was made by Dutch remixer and DJ Ben Liebrand. The single did not chart in any territory.

A year earlier, Liebrand created a remix of Jeff Wayne's 'Eve of the war', from his millionselling 1978 album 'The war of the worlds'. The single didn't chart, but it did become a collector's item for fans of the musical version of the H.G. Wells book.

As always, Ben Liebrand did a very decent job with this track. He added lots of extra beats to the track to give it extra power. The setup wasn't successful: 'El Norte' flopped and Cock Robin were back into the studio to record their third album for CBS. It would be their last...

'Precious little diamond' was remixed by Ben Liebrand, who had just become a famous dj and remixer thanks to his weekly 'minimix' on Radio Veronica. The remix is an extended version of the original song with extra instrumental breaks. Very attractive.

Find me (Odyssey to Anyoona) - Jam & Spoon feat. Plavka

Still, 'Find me' is a nice popsong, and when I bought this promotional double 12" release, I was very glad. It contains no less than six versions of the song, plus two other tracks, and the heavy duty gatefold sleeve gives it a lush look. The fact that such releases sometimes turn out to be a bit disappointing in the long run is just a minor remark.

Victor should have been a jazz musician - Grace Jones
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623131353im_/http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/SR3v7-98_AI/AAAAAAAAABU/GWetRVKOYII/s200/victor.jpg)
I was less impressed with the tracks themselves when they were released. To me, Grace Jones peaked with 'Slave to the rhythm', and then faded into obscurity. But I have to admit I was wrong. 'Victor should have been a jazz musician' is not only a great title (it's up there with 'You will always find me in the kitchen at parties' and 'I don't know what you want but I can't give it anymore'), but also a classy, cool track. The remixes, then. Ben Liebrand did a reasonable job on 'Victor', but the remix of 'I'm not perfect' is slightly too manic for me.
My collection: 12" single no. 274
Found: 1996
