I bought a French copy of the single 'Love is love' by Culture Club ten years ago. I still knew that, so there was no reason to buy this single other than it being the German pressing with a different cover. And, much to my surprise, as it turns out this single also has a different B-side, which is quite a good song too.
There's even more to this single: there is a mistake on the back cover of this single: the B-side is listed as 'The dream', but actually contains the song 'Mistake no. 3'. That song is taken from the band's 1984 album 'Waking up with the house on fire'.
My collection: 7" single no. 6214
Found: Record fair, Utrecht, November 17, 2019

Miss me blind - Culture Club
'Miss me blind' was released as the third single from Culture Club's album 'Colour by numbers'in the USA, peaking at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in spring 1984. This gave the band its sixth consecutive top 10 hit, as well as its final top 10 hit there to date.
This single is the French pressing. For some reason, the single was not released in the UK, but it reached number 28 in France and number 32 in Italy - which says something about the popularity of this track in this part of the world. It is a nice single, though, and I was glad to add this to my collection.

I'm afraid of me - Culture Club
Prior to 'making it big' with Do you really want to hurt me, Culture Club released two singles that weren't quite so successful. I found the first one - White boy - eight years ago, and this month number two popped up almost equally cheap: 'I'm afraid of me'.
The single only got to number 100 of the UK singles chart. A remixed version of this track appeared on the band's debut album 'Kissing to be clever'.

The lead single 'The war song' was not very inspired, but ended up being the one hit single from the album. It reached number 2 in the UK singles chart and number 5 in the Dutch Top 40. Subsequent singles were far less successful.

Most people assume that their first hit 'Do you really want to hurt me' was also their debut single, but that's not true: they released two singles prior to that one. 'White boy' did not chart in any territory, although it already showcases their signature sound. You don't see this single a lot, so I was glad to find it.

'The medal song' performed poorly in the charts, peaking at number 32 in the UK singles chart and their first hit single not to reach the top 10 in the UK. Not even this limited edition gatefold sleeve could help matters much.

Do you really want to hurt me - Culture Club
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623133224im_/http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/Shr570m3_fI/AAAAAAAADE4/g60TsPR8-_Q/s200/cultureclub6.jpg)
'Do you really want to hurt me' became a major hit after their memorable debut performance on 'Top of the Pops', which they got thanks to Shakin' Stevens being ill and not able to appear, leading the song to become a UK number 1 single for three weeks in October 1982. The single also became a number one hit in Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Canada, Austria and Australia. In the Netherlands, the song peaked at number 2.

Love is love - Culture Club

I found this single and didn't even know it existed. It was interesting enough for me to want to have it, especially since that other song from 'Electric dreams' ('Together in electric dreams' by Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder) has become an Eighties classic. It was interesting to find out how this song would compare.

I first bought the single during the 1985 edition of Parkpop, which was the regular German pressing. 15 years later I found myself confronted with a posterbag edition, sightly worn but still in good condition. It was a steal! So I bought this one too.

I didn't buy the single at the time of its release, in 1983, because it was continually played on radio and television. It made me hate the song. Now, more than a quarter of a century later, I can hear it again. And the price was right, of course...

'Move away' was the first single drawn from Culture Club's 1986 album 'From luxury to heartache'. The recording sessions for this album dragged on for a long time because of singer Boy George's addiction to cocaine. Nevertheless, this single became a hit for the band, because it reached number 7 in the UK and number 12 in the USA.
Besides the regular 7" single, the record company released a collectable cd-sized picture disc in a cardboard cd-single-esque sleeve. The picture disc featured a photograph of band member Jon Moss. Both singles are pictured here: you will notice that the regular sleeve has purple blocks, where the cd-sized sleeve has green blocks.
My collection: 7" single no. 2248 / 5" single no. 2504

Do they know it's Christmas? - Band Aid
![](http://web.archive.org./web/20200623133224im_/http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HvCNHaaadrI/SVOjyKGSosI/AAAAAAAAAi8/KEDMxCv2MuQ/s200/bandaid.jpg)
I bought the single as soon as it came out, although, strangely, I didn't like the song that much. There were just so many of my eighties idols participated that I felt I couldn't pass up on this historic single. Two decades later, it's somehow reassuring (or troubling) that everything has stayed the same in Africa: it's still a continent of war, hunger and drought.
