Resist the Fourth Industrial Repression!

Saturday, April 18th, 2020

ES | ¡RESISTENCIA A LA CUARTA REPRESIÓN INDUSTRIAL!

From The Acorn:

The First Industrial Repression saw us thrown off the land, forced into crowded towns and cities, used as human fodder for the dark satanic mills of the new steam-powered capitalist world.

The Second Industrial Repression electrified the rule of The Machine. New generations were born who had never tasted freedom. Their lives and their thinking were increasingly dominated by the rhythms of industrial mass production.

The Third Industrial Repression heralded the arrival of computers and robots. Human beings were now expected to meekly conform to these automated norms and functions.

And now we face the onset of the Fourth Industrial Repression (4IR), the most deathly repression of them all…

The 4IR wants to own, control and profit from everything that exists in this world.

Its Internet of Things aims to create a matrix of total connectivity, of which it is the owner.

You, your home, your family, your friends, your relationships and your activities will all belong to the 4IR. (more…)

Everything will be fine

Saturday, April 18th, 2020

It’s the story of a man who falls from a 50-story building.
To calm down as he falls into the void he keeps saying to himself:
So far so good.
So far so good.
So far so good…

But it’s not the fall that matters, it’ s the landing.
As in the metaphor of the French film “La Haine”, we live in a world that has been condemned to disaster. The continued destruction of the ecosystems to extract raw materials, the systematic degradation of the earth’s crust by monocultures and agro-industry, the expulsion or annihilation of species, the transformation of the oceans in dunghills, the irreversible damage to the ozone layer… has had an exponential advance in recent years. They’ve put us on a path which is more than evident a transformation, for the worse, of life on earth.

At the same time, we have generated societies that are annihilators of the different, of the enemies of risk and adventure. The perpetuation of hierarchies and authorities, slaves of an economic system that puts the flow of goods above everything else. Profit as the only ideology. In which the virtual imposes itself on reality. The simulation to the experience. (more…)

Primavera silenziosa

Friday, April 3rd, 2020

quanto descrivere qualsiasi cosa
che esiste
realmente

Rachel Carson, Primavera silenziosa

(more…)

‘Coronavirus, Agribusiness and the State of Emergency’ by Silvia Ribeiro

Friday, March 13th, 2020

Much is said about the Covid-19 coronavirus, and yet very little. There are fundamental aspects that remain in the shadows. I want to name some of these, different but complementary.

The first refers to the perverse mechanisms of capitalism to hide the true causes of the problem so as not to do anything about them, because it affects their interests, but it does deal with the apparent cure for the symptoms. Meanwhile, the State spends enormous public resources on prevention, containment and treatment measures, which do not act on the causes either, so this way of facing problems becomes a captive business for transnational companies, for example, with vaccines and medicines.

The dominant reference to viruses and bacteria is as if they were exclusively harmful organisms that must be eliminated. A war-like approach prevails, as in so many other aspects of capitalism’s relationship with nature. However, due to the ability of viruses to jump between species, viruses and bacteria are a fundamental part of the coevolution and adaptation of living beings, as well as their balance with the environment and their health, including humans.

Covid-19, which now makes global headlines, is a strain of the coronavirus family, which causes generally mild respiratory diseases but can be serious for a very small percentage of those affected due to their vulnerability. Other coronavirus strains caused Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), considered an epidemic in Asia in 2003 but since disappeared in 2004, and Middle East Acute Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), which has also virtually disappeared. Like Covid-19, they are viruses that can be present in animals and humans, and as with all viruses, affected organisms tend to develop resistance, which in turn causes the virus to mutate again. 2nd International Meeting: 3 Days Against Techno-Sciences – Italy, July 2020

PDF: Second international meeting

This year too, we are proposing an informal, convivial and international opportunity for discussion and reflection among individuals and organisations engaged in building an analysis and a critique of what we may call the technoworld. A world which is going through an epoch-making paradigm shift, where all bodies and our very experience have become one of the most important new raw materials. Engineering of the living and digital control are increasingly replacing a large part of the previous market of commodities, which are becoming obsolete. On a planet which has been plundered well beyond its biological limits, the re-designing through synthetic biology and artificial reproduction in a eugenic key of human beings and their management represents the new path forward. This of course for those who will be included in the new power arrangement, for the others no plans have emerged, or perhaps the fact that they have not been presented is already an answer in itself, they will certainly not be satisfied with merely marginalising a part of the world.

For those who ask where the current system, based on systematic exploitation of the planet, can find a way to reorganise itself, incorporating into its discourse the farce of sustainability, the answer lies in taking over human beings themselves: managed, influenced and addressed in their behaviour so that they themselves produce processes which can turn them into commodities. This is the true essence of green and sustainable policies to save the planet from so many catastrophes, of which climate catastrophe is only a part. Human beings who will soon be genetically edited in a process of ongoing perfectibility, where the body will be seen as a limit to be overcome, where what is human will be considered an error, and must therefore continuously adapt to a machine world. A techno-scientific adaptability which will become the only possibility. We can now seem how the cybernetic paradigm, according to which “the environment we live in has always been so radically modified that today we are forced to modify ourselves”, takes a material and dramatic shape. Italy: Against the Quarantine of Passions, the Social Epidemic

Thursday, February 27th, 2020

In these days a new nightmare is spreading: the contagion from the so-called Coronavirus. Ten villages in the Lodi area, considered as the outbreak of the infection, and one village in the Veneto region, where the first death from the virus occurred, have been placed under quarantine. This means no possibility for people to move around and leave their homes. Throughout Lombardy, power forces people to limit their social mobility. From the closure of the meeting places to the curfew, the step is short. Prisoners of themselves and something imperceptible to the human eye, the pastoral government has even ordered through a flash decree to close the streets and reinforced the garrison of police and army, intimating that if someone does not comply with state orders they could also face arrest. A social epidemic, power can only respond with repression and surveillance. The hunt for the anointer has begun.

A new spectre looms around us and its strength is its presumed medical truthfulness and the power to erase in a flash all other spectres invisible to the human eye. Bizarrely, when we talk about fast death, the social epidemic becomes urgent. When death settles into life, everything returns to the world of catastrophe. Isn’t there an emergency when the places where we live become unbreathable from industrialization and from the machine-world?

Liberate Or Die: A Week of Anti-Speciesist Action and Skill-Share | 20-25 May (Germany)

Tuesday, February 25th, 2020

INTERNATIONAL CALL!

JOIN US FOR ANOTHER WEEK OF ANTISPECIESIST ACTION, WORKSHOPS AND SKILLSHARING.

20th – 25th May, Hambacher Forst.

(looking for a different language? check the bottom of this page for BASQUE, CATALAN, DUTCH. FRENCH, ITALIAN, SPANISH, SWEDISH, GERMAN)

The third edition of Liberate or Die: From Cage to Freedom will aim to open a space in which we can come together, share skills, and attack speciesism. As before, the gathering will take place in the Hambacher Forst occupation, a focal point of anti-capitalist and climate justice resistance across Europe.

THIS EVENT IS ACTION-FOCUSED.

Aside from just sharing skills, every day of the gathering will be a day of action in which we can put new knowledge into practice. We want to motivate people to initiate actions autonomously, without seeking permission from mainstream/reformist organisations. There will be a range of possible actions depending on your particular interests and risk levels. Some actions may be suggested, but you are invited to come up with plans for yourselves and act spontaneously.

THIS EVENT IS INTERSECTIONAL.

We want to emphasise the interconnections between antispeciesism and all other struggles against oppression. That means bearing in mind different privileges that we hold and maintaining a space which aims to challenge all hierarchies and further total liberation – something that will also be reflected in the workshops offered. This is not a space for those with racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. views who have infiltrated some animal rights groups over recent years.

THIS EVENT IS FREE.

You don’t have to pay to attend! Even if donations are welcome, we believe people shouldn’t have to pay for anything. This event can be hosted for free because we self-organize – everyone attending is part of the crew, and is encouraged to take part in the maintenance of the gathering. If you see a job it’s yours!

THIS EVENT IS SQUATTED.

The gathering will take place in an autonomous land occupation. That means collectively taking care of the forest ecosystem – keep to the paths, pick up your trash, respect the wild. It also means keeping an eye out for intrusion from the state. Participants should be aware of the likelihood of intervention by cops, whether covertly or in uniform. Information will be shared on arrival on legal rights and how to deal with the filth.

Let us know if you have ideas for workshops or other questions.

More info and list of workshops to follow.

Spread the word and stay wild!!

From Unoffensive Animal.

Naarm/Melbourne: Five Affirmations Formed in Smoke and Fire (so-called Australia)

Wednesday, February 19th, 2020

FIVE AFFIRMATIONS FORMED IN SMOKE AND FIRE

1. In these fires we see the ongoing violence of more than two centuries of colonisation on this continent. In attempting to eradicate the sovereignty of First Nations people and their connections to country, so much long-held knowledge about taking care of this land has been dismissed. Instead of a holistic and interconnected relationship with the environment, there is a relationship based on domination and possession.

A colonial society is not capable of establishing a nourishing relationship with the environment.

2. In these fires we see the devastation that is arriving due to climate change. While mining and the fossil fuel industry should be targets of our anger, they do not speak to the entirety of the devastation. Industrial farming of water-hungry crops like cotton and rice while rivers run dry. Livestock churning through the soil as erosion leads to desertification. The logging of old-growth forests. The links in the chain connect to our whole way of life.

The scale of devastation is systematic, and so the entire system becomes our target.

3. In these fires we see the outcome of a complete disregard for life beyond generating wealth. And we know that there is no changing course within capitalism, with its endless drive for the next source of profit. The destitution that it inflicts upon all life and the environment through insatiable resource extraction has been noted. We won’t be fooled by desperately staged attempts at green-washing.

Capitalism will get no further chances.

4. In these fires we see that there is no way forward in rebuilding back to the way things were. This might not be the end times or the apocalypse – it might simply be the new normality. Catastrophe, followed by catastrophe, followed by doing the best we can to recover. But if ‘recovery’ means desperately trying to return to a way of life that is untenable, we’d rather not. Colonised people have been living and fighting through catastrophe for a long time. Do the rest of us feel that we have enough skin in the game now to join them?

There is not much positive in this disaster, but from these ashes we can build something different.

5. In these fires we see that those who govern us – no matter what party they represent – will never provide for us, even in the hardest of times. Just ask one of the volunteer firies fighting the flames. If it wasn’t Scotty from marketing, it would be some other insufferable fuckwit. They protect wealth and the economy, while playing on anxiety and fear. They do nothing to sustain us.

In these times of crises, we can only turn to each other in solidarity and mutual aid.

To finish…
This country now has its own climate refugees, joining millions of others from all around the world. We have seen people risk everything to assist each other, sharing resources and caring for others. This kind of humanity need not be reserved for extreme situations. While it might start the people immediately alongside us, the alliances we build and the mutual aid we enact will have to cross borders and reflect the global scale of what we are facing.

As the extreme becomes normal, so can our solidarity.

PDF: Against Eugenics and Anthropocide

“A crime against humanity is taking place before our eyes.
This crime, born in the brains of biologists and committed through the means of medicine and genetics, presents itself outwardly as a good deed and an emancipation for mankind.
A good deed for victims of sterility (organic or due to the chemical and industrial poisoning of the environment), for single women and couples of the same sex who are naturally infertile.
Emancipation from the living – spontaneous, autonomous and unpredictable – from the constraints of nature from which derives birth with all its uncertainties.
This crime is eugenics (at first called viriculture or aristogenics), the artificial selection of the human species, renamed this way in 1883 by Galton, a cousin of Darwin and also co-inventor of biometrics together with Karl Pearson (1857-1936). Or again race hygiene (Rassenhgyiene) in 1904, by Alfred Ploetz and Ernst Rüdin, two Nazi doctors. …”

Critical Reflections on Solidarity and Recent Rail Disruptions (Kanada)

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020

Anonymous submission to North Shore

Over the past weeks since the call-out for railway disruptions appeared, there have been a half dozen actions targeting train lines in Ontario. These have been diverse, with most involving the use of copper wire to trip the sensor system. One such communique described the added impact of doing multiple, coordinated actions of this kind; another emphasized that this action can safely and easily be done alone; and another reflective one talked through some of the difficulties of preparing and making sure it’s effective, showing the potential for the action to be taken up widely. There was also a surprise demo that blocked the rails, and an incendiary attack on the power supply of a signal station.

These actions have been inspiring and are only a beginning. The raid on Wet’suwet’en territory seems inevitable, and so we would like to echo the calls that have been made to shut down Canada should the RCMP again attack land defenders there. Over the past weeks, anarchists have built up the means to do this by targeting rail lines, so we want to encourage everyone to start scouting and gathering supplies now to be ready to go in the days immediately following a raid. The disruptions that have already happened show that this strategy allows for a diversity of tactics, so there are many ways of answering this call, though the potential small, discrete groups seems particularly promising. Climate change – Some critical thoughts on common misconceptions in times of destruction and change…

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020

Originally published by Revolte – Anarchistische Zeitung, Vienna, Juli 2019, Nr. 43, Page 1-2 . Translated by Enough 14.

Table of Contents

A concern of ‘each and every one’

Green capitalism

Forecasts and the misery of the political world

Smart cities

In the past weeks we could experience relatively high temperatures again. So one heat record year beats the next. British climate researchers recently presented a model to calculate the temperature rise in the metropolises until 2050. Vienna is one of the cities most affected, with a temperature rise of 7.6 degrees Celsius compared to 1850, the year that is more or less considered the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

The consequences of global warming are melting of sea ice and glaciers, sea level rise, thawing of permafrost soils (which will release even more CO2), growing drought zones and desertification, increasing weather extremes, extinction of species, etc.

In addition, there would be further social, political and economic aggravations. Like famines and water shortages, deaths and illnesses caused by the enormous heat and epidemics, wars over dwindling resources and usable territories and a global migration movement. Just to name a few.

To pick out just one aspect here: If we remember how the political classes and European politicians reacted to the so-called “refugee crisis” in 2015. When we saw how borders were militarized, plans of action developed and powers for the military and police expanded. Not to mention the agitation of the mass media and the general racism, nationalism and panic that has been fostered by politicians, media and other opinion makers. And this was about a more or less still calculable number of people, in relation to what will happen if more and more parts of the earth become uninhabitable. Depending on how fast and drastically these developments will take place, we are talking about the largest migration movement in the history of the human race! (more…)

January 17th Day of Action to Stop Line 3 – Tar Sands Anti-Pipeline Struggle (U$A)

Tuesday, January 14th, 2020

From the headwaters of the Mississippi River, a call reverberates across Turtle Island: Stop Line 3!

The Dakota and Anishinaabeg people have lived, died, and cared for the waters in what’s now “Minnesota” since long before the founding of the United States. Enbridge Inc. proposes to place a tar sands pipeline across the lands and waters of indigenous people in northern Minnesota—a project called ‘Line 3’. This pipeline proposes to cross 211 waterbodies, some of the richest wild rice beds in the world, and violate the treaty rights of Anishinaabeg negotiated in 1837, 1854, and 1855. The Minnesota segment of Line 3 is the final holdout of a pipeline planned to send 1M barrels per day of oil sands from Alberta to the western edge of Lake Superior. Line 3 represents a 10% increase in tar sands production.

As the state of Minnesota weighs the final water crossing permits needed to build Line 3, we invite you to join us for a day of joyful, exuberant, and playful public engagement with the possibilities for life without oil. Indigenous, settler, migrant—we all agree: a world of extraction is not the world we want!

When we take action to support the Dakota and Anishinaabeg preserve their homelands and culture, together we open possibilities for reinventing our lives beyond colonialism and capitalism. You don’t have to be part of an organization, a government, or some other structured system to want something else. We want ethical ways of relating to each other and to the earth. This is the only home we have. From January 17th – January 19th we call all beings who want something different to gather and display this desire using the hashtag #StopLine3. From banner drops to rallies to roving street parties to demonstrations to teach-ins, anything that helps spread our joy and defiance is welcome.

The possibilities for another world exist now.

Greta Thunberg: The Billionaires’ Favourite

Friday, January 10th, 2020

via Winter Oak/Acorn, check original for full links, not included here due to hostile sources. Against the techno-capitalist nightmare future:

“Wow, this is unbelievable!” tweeted Greta Thunberg in response to the news that she had been named Time magazine Person of the Year for 2019.

Only it wasn’t, because the owner of Time is one of the wealthy business people who have been aiding and abetting her meteoric rise to fame.

What is truly unbelievable is that there is still anyone out there who has not grasped that the Greta brand (rather than the person herself) has been carefully manufactured and exploited to promote a particular block of vested financial interests. (more…)
