As notes, UK has the same advantages of island status like New Zealand, Taiwan and (effectively) S Korea... yet (despite the Brexiters long-term desires) currently has open borders and is suffering much more from CV-19...!

Andy Cowper has always been one of, if not, the finest commentators on the NHS. He combines astute with acerbic insights perfectly. This piece is so worth the read. The People’s Chat Show Host | Comment | Health Service Journal

I've just been looking at the published data on testing. It shows the level of testing in Rep of Ireland to be more than double the UK. From the international comparison data source used by Downing Street

Good discussion. By the time one of nine people living in cramped conditions has tested positive how many others will have been infected? Is it not a problem of properly housing valuable workers for this period? A precautionary approach.

A young woman in Dublin learnt yesterday that she tested +ve for coronavirus. She is a valuable migrant care home worker, one of 9 in her household. Between them, they work in 5 different care homes. Risks are obvious. Yet hotels are empty. Isolation is a necessity not a luxury.

Stark messages about N Ireland (for those willing to listen) from the data published today. The major surprise was the small proportion of deaths taking place in hospital in the week 18 to 24th April. Only 37% took place in hospital and 58% were in care homes. 1/3
