In Blair’s last Shadow Cabinet there were many who would have made a decent job of Deputy Leader: Prescott, Mowlam, Smith, Beckett, Cook, Blunkett, and many others. Today Burgon puts himself forward as a serious contender.

Just concluded an epic watch of the majestic series “Country Music” by Ken Burns. The final episode arc around the career of Johnny Cash as the epitome of the “complicated chorus of American voices “ was immense.

The legacy of Alasdair Gray goes far beyond the diversity and quality of his creativity. He changed how we felt about ourselves and inspired so many to believe they could make their own cultural contribution. Sad news. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

“If a city hasn’t been used by an artist not even the inhabitants live there imaginatively.” Alasdair Gray re-imagined and reinvented over and over in his books and paintings, thus inspiring the rest of us to do the same. A true titan.

Alasdair Gray reinterpreted his city by prose and by brush. We have lost a great son of Glasgow but what a legacy and a body of work to leave behind.

The Dolly Parton doc was one of the highlights of my festive period. And if you haven't heard Jolene slowed down to a haunting 33rpm prepare to have your mind absolutely blown 🤯

Its absurd that MEPs get a nominating role in Labour's leadership contest but not AMs, MSPs or Council leaders

If ever there was a letter for Christmas Day this from the Irish Times is it. Read, weep and wonder in awe at such thoughts in such prose. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

A fantastic tribute to a great leader in education. Shaped by the community he came from and a believer in education as the key route out of poverty and inequality. Really sad news.
