Those 156 page editions were the nightmare of this once young delivery boy. See how many of those papers you can carry on a bike !

Yep. Lots of us grew up with this as an integral part of our local community. We've all got the yellowing clippings from whenever you or someone you knew was profiled in the Frankston Standard. Will miss it greatly.

Is this not an opportunity for some independent publishers to keep these going?

It's just not cost effective unfortunately. It's when you need a local millionaire to step in and say they're happy to run it at a small loss or close to even.

The great John Gavegan. One of the biggest characters in the business. Loved that pipe, as much as he did following us all out to the carpark as we left for home to tell us one of his many hilarious stories.

How many Frankston Locals would it take to set up a local sports Paper. What would it cost, and could we do it with crowd funding?
-
Sadly, the short answer is no. Too many ways to get news now and too few people willing to pay. A lot of people will bemoan the job losses today but also freely admit they haven't bought a paper or subscribed online for years.
